Summary

From the number one best-selling author, Peter James, comes The Secret of Cold Hill

The spine-chilling follow-up to The House on Cold Hill. Now a smash-hit stage play.

Cold Hill House has been razed to the ground by fire, replaced with a development of ultra-modern homes. Gone with the flames are the violent memories of the house’s history and a new era has begun.

Although much of Cold Hill Park is still a construction site, the first two families move into their new houses. For Jason and Emily Danes, this is their forever home, and for Maurice and Claudette Penze-Weedell, it’s the perfect place to live out retirement. Despite the ever present rumble of cement mixers and diggers, Cold Hill Park appears to be the ideal place to live. But looks are deceptive and it’s only a matter of days before both couples start to feel they are not alone in their new homes.

There is one thing that never appears in the estate agent brochures: nobody has ever survived beyond 40 in Cold Hill House and no one has ever truly left....

Don’t move to Cold Hill!

I enjoyed the House on Cold Hill but you don,t have to know it to follow this. Although if you do you will enjoy picking up on references to the original.
However, this can be a standalone story which reveals further that Cold Hill House and the later built estate are not conducive to a healthy life!
Very different to the Roy Grace series but equally enjoyable.

Not as good as I wanted it to be

I waited for this book for ages . I found it interesting in places but I expected a better ending . The end felt unfinished . I had wanted to learn more about the ghosts who live there. I wanted to know why they were there what killed them who was involved . I wanted to hear about the last couple who owned the house and instead I got a rather lame ending. Disappointed in the book

Okay

I was a bit of a old fashioned ghost story that I remember as a kid. I listen all the way though but found it easy to pretict the ending hoping that there would be more to it. But it was well written and read and not unenjoyable.

Not bad...but not great!

I enjoyed this story but it was I suppose usurprisingly very similar to its predecessor.
Good narration and worth a listen but not a classic by any means (unfortunately)!

Superbly written, excellent narrator. I loved this book so much I’ve just finished it - on day 2. Looking forward to the next one!

Bored me to death.

I had high hopes for this audio book after reading The house on cold Hill a couple of years back.. But.. It took me months to finish listening to this title as I found it so tediously dull!
Yes, it had a few spine tingling moments in it but that was all for me I'm afraid. Most of the characters just annoyed me.
The only reason I stuck with it was the fact I'd wasted a credit on it!

Sorry Peter. I'm a huge fan of your Roy grace series and I'm enjoying listening to them greatly, but this title completely missed the mark for me.
A wasted opportunity for what could have been a cracking sequel!

Awful

I really liked some of Peter James’s earlier works. I wish I hadn’t finished it. I kept expecting it to improve....it never did. It doesn’t even rate one star.

Hmmmm.....

The narrator was amazing and because of him I didn’t get mad at the book. The silliness of people to constant explain away very obvious THERE IS A GHOST or several....in your home. “Should I tell her”? Should the husband and wife tell each other you are seeing ghosts? My wife is the very first person I would talk to is If saw a ghost in our home. It’s stupid to think any differently. The beginning of the book has SO much detail. Every single detail.... detail about things that don’t even matter. I mean , why in the world spend so much time with the PW’s?! Then the end was really fast with no explanation of why this all started happening. What did the ghosts want? IDK......
