Summary

Three muffled thuds ring from the partially filled grave of the newly wed girl.

Only the verger hears them, and he dismisses the noise as his imagination. But over the next few days, others also hear faint sounds.

An exhumation order is granted. Reporter Kate Hemingway sneaks into the small suburban churchyard when the coffin is opened, and the scene she witnesses is so horrific she can never forget it. As she starts work on the story, Kate finds herself caught up in a sinister and macabre cover-up.

At the centre is a respected anaesthetist, who has a secret obsession. He believes people can exist outside their bodies and that if he can prove it, he will provide the answer to the question that has haunted mankind through the ages: is there life after death?

Nothing - and no one - is going to stand in the way of his driving ambition....

Narrator

I’m sorry, I love Peter James, but, I didn’t get past chapter 2 because the narrator had such an annoying tone!!!!

So disappointed

So disappointed! I knew that this was *not* a Roy Grace book (and I've read them all) and was very much different, and that it contained descriptive sexual content, etc., but, hey, I'm an adult and can read almost anything if it's well-written and tells a reasonable story. But this was neither of those things and, in my opinion, at times it was downright nasty and the sex stuff overly graphic. Also, it was an audiobook so add to the list a couple of dodgy narrators and there we have it - just one star, for old times sake.
PS: The only reason I finished it was because I was heavily involved in gardening and couldn't be bothered to change it...

Slow start but worth persevering

I’ve been waiting for this book to be released on audible for ages and was a bit worried as I really struggled to get into it for several chapters. As soon as the stories begin to align it gets going and I’m so glad I persevered. I really enjoyed it thank you.

Another great Peter James classic

Well narrated and gripping enough to keep me engaged throughout. He’s always good. This one was no different. Anyone ck planning about the narration didn’t listen for more than a little while maybe as there are a few narrators but to me the Narration was excellent

More like a Horror story

Worst book I’ve listened to. Too many untied ends! Can’t believe Peter James was the author

Twilight

not up to the standard of his Roy Grace books
All that unbelievable out of body experiences and the stupidity of Kate going off in to a place where there were no other people around with a man she suspected of nefarious deeds. Would anybody drink the coffee he could easily have slipped a drug into

Kept hoping

I just couldn’t get into this and hated so much that I couldn’t. I got to 3 hours left and have given up, life is too short and there are other books I want to read. ( I agree with others the sex scenes were not necessary ). A huge disappointment as I normally love Peter James’s books

Brilliant book

As expected from Peter James, another brilliant book with a gripping story and great characters. Loved it.
The male narrator was a little distracting, very singsong in his intonation, but I got over that as the story was so good!

Bad Narrator Ruins It

I love, love, love Peter James and was excited to listen to Twilight, but this male narrator is just NOT good. His strange inflections on the ends of sentences are teeth-grating. I wish this wasn't the case as I would like to get farther into this story, which is good- but I keep having to put it down. I don't want to give it a bad overall rating, but the narrator is terrible so he gets one star and the book itself gets three overall, which might be underrating the story itself, but like I said it's hard to listen to so I can't comment on it too much. What I COULD listen to was suspenseful and well-written like all of James's books.
