Combining stories from ebook story collections Short Shockers One and Short Shockers Two, and with never-before-seen new material, this is a story collection you won't forget. From a woman intent on revenge, to a restaurant critic with a fear of the number thirteen, and from a story of ghostly terror to the first ever case of his best-loved Detective, Roy Grace, James exposes the Achilles heels of each of his characters, and makes us question how well we can trust ourselves, and each other.

Women are rarely cold-blooded killers. But when famous philanthropist Hugo Fletcher is found dead, there is no doubt in anybody's mind that the killer is a woman. And it is clear from the precision of the planning that this was no crime of passion. It was an execution. The victim was revered the world over for his charitable work with trafficked Eastern European prostitutes, and as at least one of these girls is missing, Detective Chief Inspector Tom Douglas is certain that there has to be a connection.

Novelty Value is Not Enough
I'm a big fan of Peter James otherwise I wouldn't have bothered with this very short book in the first place. It's a decent short story even if the final twist is something I think a lot of listeners will see coming from a mile off. Peter Panting breathes life into it and does a fair enough job of the narration so James completists will of course want to get this.
For me though next month I will be getting 45 hours of Brandon Sanderson epic fantasy for the same single credit and I can also get any of the full length novels by Peter James including the excellent Roy Grace series. It's a problem with the credit-based system of course but to me if you're going to release something this short it really should be something that's genuinely a bit special or also available for a much cheaper cash price than the fiver it's currently available for.
So, this has novelty value but not enough for me personally.

Not his usual Quality
I got this book from the £1 sale and it was worth that to be fair. But do not use a credit for this as you'll be very disappointed. I've gotten into peters James work over the last 12 months curry working through the much loved Roy Grace series. But do not come into this expecting the same standard of work in a shorter format it just doesn't work. The twist was very very predictable meaning it was hardly a twist at all to be honest.

Interesting twist on a murder story. Unfortunately, guess the ending pretty quick. The story leading up to the solution was a bit long winded when you're already guessed the end.

The Perfect Murder
I knew it was a short story but really thought it was a little longer, was a bit disappointed. Was looking forward to sett.ing down with a good Peter James book. Did not find this one gripped me. The story was okay, but will stick to his full length.
