About this listen

Perfect People is a compelling and thought-provoking thriller from bestselling Peter James.

John and Naomi are grieving the death of their four-year-old son from a rare genetic disorder. They desperately want another child, but they realize the odds of their next child contracting the same disease are high.

Then they hear about geneticist Dr Leo Dettore. He has methods that can spare them the heartache of ever losing another child to any disease.

At his clinic is where their nightmare begins.

They should have realized something was wrong when they saw the list. Choices of eye colour, hair, sporting abilities. They can literally design their child. Now it's too late to turn back. Naomi is pregnant and already something is badly wrong . . .

I am a big Peter James fan so bought this and was interested as it looked diffrent from his Roy Grace books. Like the previous review I too found the narrator slighly irritating but because I was gripped and intruiged by the story I stuck with it! I am so glad I did as I thorougly enjoyed it and was hooked to the end. A really great story with a gentle warning about science messing with nature, there is always a price to pay!

Stick with it!

Love the books written by Peter James and although this one is a complete change in direction it was a great book and very well read. I just listened and listened without being able to take a break from it!

Now waiting for the next offering so hurry up Mr James!!

Another great Peter James book!

Fantastic book even with the unconvincing male impersonations of the narrator, if you can get over this then you are in for a treat. Completely different from the normal Peter James books with an ending that really makes you question if advances in science are ever going to take over mother nature. Best book I have listened to in a long time.

Would you consider the audio edition of Perfect People to be better than the print version?

I never tried the printed version so I couldn't comment

What other book might you compare Perfect People to, and why?

The girl on the train - very gripping - cliff hanger moments - end of some chapters make you gasp with shock

Which character – as performed by Clare Corbett – was your favourite?

The children - Luke & Phoebe

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The ending - I felt an anti-climax coming but the last 10 minutes of the book is heart fluttering and emotional

Any additional comments?

I loved this book. I find Clare the narrator really easy to follow as I first experienced her in the girl on the train. Brilliant story - I wouldn't say farfetched but definitely different. Heart pounding, cliff hanging and exciting.

I loved this title! And the narrator is brilliant
