Sometimes, people don't realize how much emotional damage they can do to other people. And in cases with narcissists, they don't care to even think about it. I do not have a narcissistic mother, but my father is an entirely different story. He feels like he is always right and that he can do no wrong, even when the evidence of his wrongdoing is directly in his face. It is so AGGRAVATING. Then he wonders why we all avoid him.

He even allowed his sister to belittle me when I was young and impressionable. It took me until I was 28 to realize what happened and why I had self-esteem issues, although my love for my father dwindled away long before then. At this point, I hold very little respect for him as a person, but I know that for my own sake, I can't continue to live with that feeling. This book would have definitely come in handy for me years ago, but I am glad it came into my life now. It helped me understand more about the person who claimed he was my father, even though he didn't act like it. And it will be helpful to anyone else who has a narcissistic person in their life.

This audiobook hit me in places I didn’t know were still hurting. It felt like lifting a dark fog that clouded my self-worth for decades. Listening to someone voice my experience helped me see I’m not broken—I’m a survivor of someone else’s wounds. It’s given me practical steps and hope to silence the inner critic and build love where there was only pain. For the first time, healing feels possible—not just distant.

I listened during evening walks and kept stopping to take notes. The narration is calm and clear, and the guidance feels practical. The section on the inner critic helped me catch the voice that keeps second guessing me. I tried one of the boundary scripts before a phone call and it kept the conversation from sliding into old patterns. I also liked the journal prompts that ask for specific examples, which made the work feel real instead of vague. The list of red flags for future relationships went straight into my notes app. I finished feeling less confused, more steady, and ready to keep building self love and better boundaries. I wish I had found this years ago.
