Summary

Wish You Were Dead is a Quick Read short story from best-selling author Peter James.

Roy Grace and his family have left Sussex behind for a week’s holiday in France. The website promised a grand house, but when they arrive the place is very different from the pictures. And it soon becomes clear that their holiday nightmare is only just beginning.

An old enemy of Roy, a lowlife criminal he had put behind bars, is now out of jail - and out for revenge. He knows where Roy and his family have gone on holiday. Of course he does. He’s been hacking their emails - and they are in the perfect spot for him to pay Roy back.

Don't bother

This from someone who's read all the Roy Grace books, plus half a dozen others not in this series. Wish You Were Dead screams 'pot-boiler' to me. I think Mr James must have been on holiday at the location for this book and decided he might as well write about it... A couple of hours' worth, instead of the usual 16/17hrs, I felt cheated. If you're a dedicated follower of all things Grace, I'd skip this one.

A great short listen

Peter James has a great mind. Even though this is such a short listen, you don't feel cheated because it is so good, and there is so much going on. Its a great listen if you only have a short time to listen, but you want to feel like you read a whole novel.

Oh dear!

Not the best Roy Grace story, seems very amateurish to be honest. Glad I didn’t use a credit on it.

Goodness that was a short Grace book.

Enjoyed it but surprised at its short length as I didn’t see that before I started it.

Disappointing

The early Grace books are good but this one, like many of the newer ones, is uninventive and rushed and just out there for a quick buck to be made on the back of the earlier successes. I fell for it again. I’m done with Peter James’ writing factory. A waste of a credit too far.

A bit short ( on impact as well)

Somewhat laboured at times. Not sure I get the point of such a short novel

Corny, contrived and not credible.

Has Peter James been replaced by a script writer from Scooby Doo?
This story and the hammed up narration damage the Roy Grace series.

Parts missing for me

Have I missed something, how did the killers know they were there? The point of the morgue introduction?

Not true Grace standard

I thought this was part of the series of "Dead" books and was thrilled to see a book that I had missed! Unfortunately it is a stand alone quick read book not up to the usual Roy Grace standard. I was very disappointed and feel that this should have had a different title to avoid confusion.

Wish you were Dead

Am so glad I found this novella by Peter James, loved every minute of it. Suspense all the way, didn't want to put it down. The narration was excellent. Would love to see more novellas like this from this writer.
