Summary

An enemies-to-lovers, drunk-married-in-Vegas, accidental pregnancy romance between the grumpiest hedge fund manager and most irresponsible doctor you've ever met.

Keeley: Last January, I drunk-married my nemesis—hot, oversized geek Graham Tate. With no memory of how it came about, there was only one solution: run off before he woke up and pretend it didn't happen. It would have worked perfectly if I hadn't wound up pregnant.

Graham is the opposite of everything I want in a man—practical, disciplined, frugal—but living with him until the baby arrives has me wondering if, perhaps, I've been wanting the wrong things all along. And if that drunk version of me last January might have been onto something.

Graham: I never planned to have kids, and I certainly wouldn't have planned on one with Keeley Connolly—a woman who does not believe in savings accounts or personal safety and thinks Lucky Charms is a health food because of the non-marshmallow bits.

A woman who also didn't think twice about marrying me in Vegas and ditching me hours later.

I can't wait to put this behind me and return to my careful, chaos-free life in New York. But the more time I spend with Keeley, the more I'm remembering the things that led me to marry her in the first place...and wondering if I can live without them when this ends.

Love this listen!

Elizabeth O'Roark is a favorite author of mine and I love her writing style. She dives into her stories, gives depth to her characters and gives all the feels. This one had me in love immediately! Graham and Keeley hook up and find themselves expecting. Neither thought they were made for children, but now perspectives have changed. Graham has moved in to be with Keeley until the baby is born, but what will happen after that? Will they share custody? Will they fight over the baby? Or will love find a way in? This story had a few twists and turns and the slow burn that made it original and fun. Connected not only by the baby, the two find themselves in quite the predicament. But I do love how Graham's doting is sweet and attentive. There were times Keeley was a bit bratty, but being pregnant does crazy things to a person. Can totally relate. It's sweet, fun, and I love the whole story! It's a great listen!

Samantha Brentmoor and Wen Ross bring both of these characters alive! Brentmoor always knows her characters so well, and her portrayal of Keeley is spot on. From carefree to mom, we see a definite change in her maturity and Brentmoor gives it to us with her voice. Ross can play the sweet man so well. Graham has a way about him that is easy to love, even when aloof, and Ross brings it out. enjoyed this team and their performance.

Fun story, great narration

There were plenty of amusing moments in this book, in large part because of Keeley, who is a doctor who really seems to have the maturity of a child. In part, this is because of her past- Elizabeth O’Roarke does a great job with giving a back story that works with the heroine’s personality. However, I did find her to be a bit too childish for too long in the book. Graham was wonderful after the initial bickering that is expected from an enemies to lovers romance; throw in the surprise baby and of course there was quite some tension. The story focuses on their growth as a couple but also, Keeley’s growth as a character, as she tries to figure out what she needs to make her happy. This kind of story would work better for me had I liked the character more. That said, there were adorable moments, sweet, swing moments and a gradual fall into love that was well written.

I listened to the audiobook which was narrated by Samantha Brentmoor and Wen Ross. I know I have listened to Brentmoor before but I don’t remember her voice being so, well, cutesy and youngish, which honestly, was impressively perfect for Keeley. Very well done matching between the narration and how I had Keeley sounding in my mind but it got to be a kit after a few hours. Wen Ross, as usual, was great with his smooth voice that was also perfect for Graham and both played the other characters well too. Narration was 4.5 stars, story, 3.5 stars.

The Devil

Oh I loved this story from the beginning on.

Enemies to lovers, two total different people, but both feel the attraction immediately when they first meet.

Edit: the narrators did a great job. I was reading the book and listening to the audio too.

Sweet surprise pregnancy romance!

This is the fourth book in the Devil series. I love this series. Keeley and Graham's surprise pregnancy romance is sweet, emotional, funny, and sexy. They are opposites attract. Keeley is beautiful, feisty, and sunshine. Graham is handsome structured, protective, and grumpy. I liked this enemies-to-lovers, and slow burn romance. Samantha Brentmoor and Wen Ross did a great job with the narration. I enjoyed it.

Fantastic narration of a great story.

I’m not normally one for the surprise pregnancy trope but this was a fun one. Elizabeth gutted me with that 3rd act drama though. I was like, wait………whaaaaaaaaaat! The emotions were full and messy and just perfect for this story. We also get to revisit some of the previous books’ characters which is always fun.

Samantha once again wows us with her performance. She gives Keely this ditzy outer persona but also reveals her low self-worth inside. With her delicious male voice, she just elevates a book. Wen compliments Ms. Brentmoor well giving us the uptight Graham who softens for Keely.

A story filled with laughs, emotions, drama and some little hidden messages about the tough stuff women who are pregnant endure while trying to maintain their position in the workforce. Women truly are incredible with growing tiny humans while still doing all the things. Graham shows Keely she can still be incredible with the support of a loving partner. A partner in pregnancy, childbirth, and parenthood. And let’s not forget the spice. Which of course is absolutely delectable. From hard and fast to slow and loving this book really has it all.

Fantastic Story & Narration🎧 Gripping & Delightful

This delightful enemies to lovers, romantic comedy is entertaining and not only did it captivate my attention for the entire book, but it tugged on my heartstrings as well. I am not sure how the is my first Elizabeth O’Roark book, but I will definitely check out more of her books. I enjoyed her writing style and the characters and storylines she created, which are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with. I adored both lead characters, Keeley and Graham, opposites who were great together and for each other, they just did not know it yet, or rather Keeley didn’t know it yet. They first met over the phone and Keeley took an instant dislike to this seriousness, like he could rain on anyone’s parade. Meeting him in person was another thing, she felt an attraction to him despite his serious and grumpy disposition and he felt the same, so much so he stepped out of his comfort zone and did something he never would have or could have imagined, he spent time with her, partied and had a quickie wedding. Keeley appears to have a happy-go-lucky disposition, she is spontaneous and lives in and for the moment, she has her reasons for that but this attitude lands her in trouble and it sure did that night in Las Vegas and she has the pregnancy test and wedding ring to prove it. Graham is a stand up man and he insists on staying married until after the baby is born and comes and stays with Keeley until then. Adding to the chaos of Keeley’s life is that she just joined a private practice after finishing her residency at the hospital. I loved watching Graham and Keeley navigate around each other at first and then warm up as they got to know each other. Also loved how everything played out for them, and Graham’s role in it all. This wonderfully plotted story has the perfect balance of drama, humor, heartfelt emotions, and a fabulous romance. Elizabeth O’Roark, thank you for this fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Samantha Brentmoor and Wen Ross were the perfect cast to bring these characters to life and their portrayal of each was spot on and they were believable in every role they played. Samantha Brentmoor played Keeley with bubbly, carefree perfection, grasping all sides of her personality, from her quirkiness to her emotional and vulnerable sides and she landed her witty dialogue naturally and with ease. Wen Ross played Graham with perfection too, as the serious grump that he was and had no problem softening it up when he turned on his caring side when warranted. Both were great at performing the roles of the secondary characters as well. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the character’s emotions and projected them into their performance. These entertaining storytellers are versatile voice artists and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fabulous listen.

Unfortunately not for me

I loved the first three books in this series, but unfortunately this one wasn’t for me. The narration was fantastic though!

I couldn’t see how someone who couldn’t get any aspect of their life together could have gotten through med school. She was just too much of a mess.

Graham was so harsh sometimes in how he spoke to her, especially when discussing how she dressed.

They definitely had the enemies part down, but I’m not sure I bought their transition to more.

There was a sweet wrap up, but I just didn’t love it.

Ehh

I don’t mind a messy, imperfect heroine, I swear I don’t. But Keeley? Man, she dug under my skin and that was it. Everything she did from that point on just irked my nerves to the point that I spent more time rolling my eyes than anything else while listening to this one.
Now, usually, if the FMC is a miss for me, there’s usually a fabulous book boyfriend to even the score. Not here. Graham basically was soft serve. Alright, but definitely not a midnight craving.
I love EOR’s writing, and the narration was fantastic, but with my lack of connection to the MC’s, it definitely wasn’t as enjoyable a read as the rest of the series.

Also. We get it. Graham is boring and Keeley is definitely not winning any awards for her adulting skills.

Who is the devil in this story?

Straight out of the gate, I'm not really sure that the synopsis is going to help you a lot on this one. Yes, it will give you a clue or two, but it's not going to help you along like most do. Maybe that's good for you, maybe it's not. It didn't bother me at all. I also have not read the other 3 of the books in this series, so the first chapter of the book left me floundering a bit until I found my footing with the characters and plot. I wasn't aware that the other characters would be such an integral part of this book.

A LOT of this book centers around Keeley but I'm going to start with Graham. Many other reviewers seem to find him boring or uninteresting, etc. My take on Graham is that he came across as a neurodivergent person in some way. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but as a mom to an autistic son with ADHD and another son with ADD, I kinda feel it. He's very specific in the way he does things, has a routine that he does not break, makes sure to eat specific types of foods, etc. I'm not sure how he finds the strength to put up with Keeley's antics, but he does with a surprising amount of patience.

Back to Keeley. Her nonsense just grated me raw. I absolutely couldn't understand why she kept on the way she did when she was capable and smart. Even when it was revealed why, it still didn't make sense to me. She acts so vapid, shallow, and copycat-ish for mundane TV "stars" it was nauseating. When she went on and on about how her baby could be famous, I almost quit. I figured that there was no redeeming her at that point.

Graham and Keeley truly are mismatched. It's not a grumpy/sunshine trope. It's a introvert/wannabe trope, or something like that. I truly felt bad for Graham but I still couldn't figure out what he saw in Keeley by the end of the book. However somehow they had worked themselves out to a somewhat redeeming couple.

I kind of wonder who the Devil was in this story.

I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Samantha Brentmoor and Wen Ross. The performance was on par and smooth. No significant hiccups noted and was enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed Wen Ross' performance as Graham.

Enemies to Parents..

The Devil Gets His Due by Elizabeth O’Roark was full of tropes that are not my favorite. I had a tough time with this book. I thought that Elizabeth would have been able to pull this one together for me, but it just missed the mark.
Keeley – who I am supposed to believe is a doctor? Is just wow. The maturity level here was possibly 14-year-old, maybe? I just couldn’t get with it.
Graham – When it comes to a personality, he has absolutely nothing to offer this story. I am not sure if I was maybe missing something here but, I feel like he was there for just financial support. He had the emotional range of a paper towel.
I did listen to this in audio and I have to say Samantha Brentmoor always kills it! I am so surprised she was able to give such a dynamic performance with what was given to her to read. Wen Ross – did a good job as well.
Overall, the best part of this book was the narration and the revisits from the previous couples (who I adore!) I will say I am glad this was the 4th book of the series because I would have been very put off if it was the first.
