About this listen
Teenager Alison Doig disappeared from Kinloch more than 30 years ago under mysterious circumstances. Her reclusive family still lives in a remote part of the Kintyre peninsula, amidst rumours of wrecking, smuggling and barbaric cruelty.
Now rich American hotelier Alice Wenger has arrived in town, determined to punish those who made her suffer in the past. But someone has vowed to keep hidden sins concealed forever.
Daley’s team must race against time to expose long-held secrets and shameful lies before there are any more victims.

Brian Scott is on temporary promotion and provides moments of real humour in his interaction with senior colleagues and his malapropisms. He remains irreverent and incredibly human. Hamish entertains with his local knowledge and insight into human nature and other recurring characters make this a story with depth and interest.
The plot centres on local female who went missing some 30 years ago. The story is multilayered, with the reasons divulged but by bit, along with the connection to the bell of the title.
I bought the Audible version; the narration is superb and it plays out as a really strong drama. It's complex with unexpected twists and turns and a real joy to listen to. It works as a standalone, but to better appreciate the character developments, it's better to read the earlier books as well. Very highly recommended.
