Summary

Why stress causes weight gain
How fasting makes you less hungry
Why sunflower oil is unhealthy
How cold showers can cut your carb cravings

'If I could give you one bit of advice right now, it would be to take all the energy you're putting into fad diets and put it into becoming the most genuinely healthy version of you. If you've got a plan, you're already halfway there. And now you've got this book, you've got one.'

Davinia Taylor was overweight, depressed and unmotivated. She couldn't walk around the block, let alone go for a run or do an exercise class, and she struggled to keep up with her four young sons. In desperation she turned to biohacking to sort her head out - the unexpected bonus was that she lost nearly three stone and has kept it off for years through a series of health tricks from cold showers, to MCT oil, to ancestral eating.

She spent tens of thousands of pounds on specialists and Harley Street doctors, trying the most cutting-edge therapies available, only to discover that the true secrets of feeling amazing are very easy and affordable. Start with eating for your mental health, and weight loss is an effortless side effect.

Divided into four sections: Mood, Food, Movement and Rest, the book takes a holistic approach to weight loss, reminding you that true health is not just about what you eat. It's Not a Diet concludes with a two-week reset programme to put Davinia's advice into action easily and achievably.

Unhelpful, messy, not worth my time...

I couldn't finish this audiobook. It's self-indulgent, incredibly poorly formulated and a waste of time. If you want a list of random vitamins, pills, ingredients and expensive therapies to add to your life then maybe you'll enjoy it. Found it hilarious that the mantra is to 'count chemicals, not calories', yet the suggested list of chemical sounding supplements to add to your diet would literally take you all your time, sourcing, planning and assessing. No - this person is no medic, that's obvious and nobody should be taking health and nutritional advice from this book. The author clearly doesn't understand the actual biology and anatomy of what she's saying. Disingenuous and a waste of money and time.

Great book!

Thank you Davinia for keeping biohacking real and accessible. Listened on audible and now need to own the tangible book (and a highlighter)

Didn't want to turn this off!

Having followed Davinia's Instagram account for four to six months I was excited to own this book. It seems to be a great anchor for a lifestyle change and a brilliant starting block for a healthier me. I love Davinia's honesty and can really relate to the culture for young women in the 90's and how adopting new habits can, hopefully, mitigate some of those bad choices taken as a younger woman!
4 days into the 2 week reset now and already feeling lighter on my feet. Have begun the reset without some of the supplement so making, what I think, are sensible tweaks, which I have the confidence to do because of the book!

Amazing

Just want to say thank you for spreading your wisdom!! I am newly widowed, newly sober, and clutching on to anything wellness related literally for dear life. I listened to your audio book and loved it - I have a paper copy arriving any day to revise the supplements etc. Am loving MCT oil in my tea and am horrified how much bad oil I was having in hummus, non innocent plant milks, processed “healthy” food etc looking forward to the results I know will come ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

This book literally changed my life!

For 3 years I’ve been tracking calories. In and out via my fitness pal. I’ve not been able to shift past a certain weight, I’ve been bloated, unhappy and with zero self esteem.

I’ve developed a keen interest in biohacking in the last few months and started to implement things but this seems to be the piece of the puzzle I was missing. Counting chemicals rather than calories, I ditched the MFP app and went cold turkey on chemicals. 2 weeks on, I’m 8lb down already, my eczema is gone, I have no IBS symptoms anymore, and I haven’t touched a chocolate bar for 15 days. I used to eat 1 daily and justify it because I counted it in my calories and did exercise to get rid of it.

Game changer for so many women who have struggled because society has given them poor education around food, and how to nourish their bodies.

Not for me...

Found the author/narrator unnecessarily judgemental of experts and aggressive in tone...and it's AVocado not ADvocado...

interesting and some good pointers but the amount of supplements is crazy. how can anyone sustain that? I'm really not sure.
