About this listen

We have conversations every day, but how many of those can be considered effective? The right conversation can help establish strong relationships, solve problems, create new opportunities, and build communities. The right conversation can change everything.

But how does one prepare to have a conversation in an effective way?

In 10 lectures for self-development, professional communications coach and speaker Carol Ann Lloyd teaches the best ways to communicate and listen, including how to focus on understanding, how to overcome barriers and distractions, and how to clarify intentions. When listeners step back to hear what makes conversations successful, they will learn that each component of a conversation is a piece of a larger puzzle, which only fits together when thoughtfully considered and executed.

Conversations that matter take effort, and every conversation can be R.E.A.L. (Relevant, Effective, Affirming, Legitimate.) Carol Ann Lloyd also shares the three pitfalls in tough conversations...and how to avoid them. By the end of this course, listeners will have a new way of understanding the way people communicate, and will develop the confidence to live the life they want to live - one conversation at a time.

This book is great for the over talker and the small talker. Thoroughly enjoyed the case studies and would recommend this book to all ages.

Makes you think before you speak

There are some useful points & worthwhile examples in this series of lectures. But conversations appear to be restricted to the workplace & the excessive reference to Shakespearean texts is rather pretentious.

Narrow & rather pretentious

This was a very helpful insight into some very accessible ways to enhance and improve conversations with strangers and loved ones alike. I'd recommend it

The tips itself sound cliche without practical guidance, but she knows how to add that practical guidance to all her examples, that's what I liked about the book.

Useful case studies

The book revolves around conversations that are R.E.A.L. R stands for real, and means conversations that matter. L stands for legitimate, and means conversations... that matter. Yes, those are the words of the author. Mutual exclusivity seems to not have made it into the fundamental framework the argument of the book revolves around. Unfortunate.

Real for 'it matters', legitimate for 'it matters'

I learnt some very valuable ideas on how to have better conversations and as a result am already seeing major benefits. Highly recommend this to anyone who talks to much and doesn’t let people finish what they are saying before butting in.

Very good advice on how to hone your conversations

Didn’t find anything of insight here - unfortunately I experience American attitudes and accents to often be alienating.

Very American
