Summary
Written by Drew Wagar under official license from the creators of, and based in the vast universe of, the seminal space trading computer game Elite: Dangerous
Lady Kahina Loren, born into the Prism system's powerful ruling family, is desperate to throw off the shackles of her privileged lifestyle and discover herself, but ambition crumbles when she faces death at the hands of the one person she thought she could trust.
With the advanced technology of the third millennium, death is not always as final as it seems, but when that technology malfunctions, is death the better option?

Great book.
Great Audio book having played Elite 2 previously in the past and in more recent times "Elite Dangerous" and taking part in some of Drews Elite streams I thoroughly enjoyed the book it was quite interesting to he4e sound effects being used from the game aswell.
Hopefully Drew produces an Audio book of his other Elite book premonition!

Fantastic! I want more!
An absolute joy! Great story, worthy of a movie. Blends nicely with the game canon, if there is one. Official sound effects from game were a pleasing addition. Toby Longworth's performance was interstellar! So many voices, I was comfortably convinced I was listening to a cast of performers. Definitely worth a re-listen, to get some of the finer details and politics dialed in but, won't be a chore. The characters and relationships were so tangible. Loved it! As a HGV driver, this munched up the parsecs - see what I did there!?

An interesting insight into powerplay in Elite.
With a strong female lead character, this story draws you into a world of high level politics, manipulation and deceit. The author, Drew Wagar, weaves an enthralling yarn that you cannot help but enjoy. His use of detail (and sometimes lack thereof) means the reader/listener can actually 'see' the characters and scenes unfolding before them. This is a 'must read' for all players of Elite Dangerous, as well as anyone who likes a great story.

Captivating
I'm not a book person, though this title was able to captivate me where others haven't. I have played the game, so maybe I'm already biased, all I know is I've read this book once and listened to it twice.
The only gripe I have with this title is also a love. The sound effects they play sometimes play over the narrator which can make some words inaudible, however, the sound effects are taken from the game, and add a nice bit of familiarity for any fans.

An excellent book!
Both the book and narration are excellent work, and I would highly recommend this for any sci-fi fan in general, and Elite fans in particular.
The story is well-paced, with plenty of twists and turns that keep you engaged right to the end. Fans of the Elite franchise will find plenty of references from throughout the franchise's history, but you don't need to know anything about the games to thoroughly enjoy the story for what it is: an action-packed tale of adventure, betrayal, and discovery, set in a dangerous future that nevertheless holds hope.
The narration and sound effects are also top notch, making this an easy, engaging, and exciting listen!

an epic elite dangerous story
If you love ED then you will really enjoy this story, its charts the life of a spoiled imperial princess and how she comes from elite privilege to being on the verge of losing her life. Great narration and excellent story telling by the wonderful Drew Wagar, check him out !

loved it. but...
I really enjoyed this book, drew has written a great book that makes me feel like I'm playing elite. Toby Longworth is a really good narrator, so good I actually thought Christopher Lee and Mark strong were in the cast at times (they're not)... Great narrator.
What seriously let's let's book down is the fact that there is a sequel that likely will never be available as an audiobook. I don't have time or the patience to physically read a book, I prefer the immersivness of an audiobook. plus I can listen to books while working..
But the sequel, retaliation by drew wagner likely won't ever be made into an audio format because frontier hold the licence to it and won't dramatise it. cmon!
Drew: Great
Toby: Great
Fdev: not so great... despite having a great game.

Great story
Enjoyed every moment of this story, and learned a lot about the deeper lore of the Elite universe. a cast of characters just big enough to keep it interesting, but not so many that you lose track of who is who. Wonderful mix of high tech 33rd century and Renaissance technology and society. Loved the political intrigue woven into the plot, and while the writing did have a few brief moments where it got a bit stilted and repetitive, Toby Longworth's performance (and the background SFX/music) really shine. Highly recommended to any fans of the Elite universe, and to anyone who enjoys grand space opera in general.

ive played and currently play the elite games
This book is amazing. I've read almost all available lore as well as listen to Drew Wagars stream of lore and some O.G. gameplay. Saying all that, the book shows an amazing understanding of the game and lore! The voice acting is varied and dine very well, giving tons of life to the characters! They even use the sound effects from the game! If you're a fan of the space sci-fi genre or elite games in general I truly recommend this book!

exceptionally read
couldn't get enough of the narrator's voices and the story was vivid and interesting. I picked it up for something to listen to while running freight for my first ship and I'm glad I did. I can't wait to become Elite myself one day. o7 cmdr.

Well performed, weirdly edited ED story
The story is ok - the end is somewhat predictably cheesey with a few too many convenient plot points generally. That said, it was better than I thought it'd be overall. To be honest I did not like the protaganist and kind of hoped they would not succeed - i don't usually go for the so-called bad guys, but this story feels like the best of the worst in terms of who to root for.
The performance is quite good; he does many voices and tries to give it life. There is pretty impressive audio in terms of sound effects (straight from the game), music etc. I had to slow it down though, 0.9x or 0.95x.
The biggest gripe for me is the differences from the book (which I read concurrently). It is the same story with 95% the same text. But when the story goes into lots of dialogue, the narrator skips the dialogue tags and it switches so fast between characters that it's hard to know who is speaking.
If you're a fan of the game it's a fun story. Enjoy it as a guilty pleasure.

Over engineered distractions
The music was way way way overdone. “Less is more”. The effects and chatter in the background could be considered over the top, but seeing as this is an official licensed video game adapted work, I understand the desire to have sounds and such from the game.
But please, enough with the crappy music.

Came for the universe, amazed by the performance
I started playing Elite: Dangerous a few months ago and I wanted to dig into more of the games lore. Even though this story doesn't have any direct impact on the game (that I have experienced, but this game is massive), it definitely made me think more about which side I wanted to fight for. The narration is top notch and the use sound effects from the game really enhance the experience. It's hard to listen to someone just reading a book after listening to an audiobook produced like this.

One of the best audiobooks I've ever heard.
The narrator does a stellar performance with several different accents and voices for all the various characters. This book also features music and sound effects in the backround which blends flawlessly into the performance of the narrator. I'd have times where I'd get lost in a trance-like state as the audiobook played out like a movie in my mind.
I couldn't recommend this any more than I already do.
