Slow start but solid drama at end

After listening to an excellent book 1 and a very decent book 2, I initially struggled with the third book as the author's power of description was less compelling for me, little dialogue or drama. This was a shame as I had gotten to like the central characters and the dilemmas they had been facing but the book significantly improves after the first half dozen chapters.

Serves as a good ending to the opening trilogy

The strength of Galaxy in Flames is it's culmination of the events being set in motion in Horus Rising and False Gods. The first three books serve as a great introduction to the cause and characters of the Heresy itself. You could stop here as a 40k fan as you know what happens.

However I feel this book is by far the weakest of the three. The author is not on par with Abnett or McNeill in my opinion. I found his writing style very plain and lacking impact. I also felt that the narrator was more inconsistent in this novel when compared to the first two. I felt the voices of some characters had changed a little. So this was a little worse than previous novels too.

To conclude I would say this novel starts weak but finishes strong. The second half is very good, and worth getting through the first for. I don't have an issue with slow burn at all, I just felt the writing here was not as engaging.

good listen

a little drawn out at times but I think that's more because of me knowing what was gonna happen and wanted the book to hurry up and get to the juicy bit!

Head deeper into the heresy.

Another amazing performance that brings you deeper and deeper into the story of the horus heresy. Everything, from plot to pace, performance and character development on a par with the best Sci fi books and audio stories out there. Highly recommended.

Fantastic

Great Book, narrated masterfully. As a science fiction lover I have high standards, this has met them in most areas and surpassed them in a few others.

Treacherous!

I love this book but one thing I don't get is why would the battle last for months when there was a God Machine literally right next to them, crewed the whole time? who cares? BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!

this is the best one so far

the story was incredibly good and the first two books really built this one into something that you could really pay more attention to the characters and what will happen next there's a lot of twists and turns and the Cliffhanger is by far one of the best I've heard in a long time I just bought the fourth book and I'm excited to see what happens next definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to hear a good Sci-Fi story especially if you've heard of the world of 40K
