After listening to an excellent book 1 and a very decent book 2, I initially struggled with the third book as the author's power of description was less compelling for me, little dialogue or drama. This was a shame as I had gotten to like the central characters and the dilemmas they had been facing but the book significantly improves after the first half dozen chapters.

Slow start but solid drama at end

I was truly gripped by this book. many times I had to pull myself away, yet wanted to know how the new chapter finished.
I listened to hours at time, lost within the unfolding of the heresy.

Toby Longworth did a superb job narrating, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I now look forward to the next book into the series.

Really well read and enjoying the action as Horus' Heresy begins in full swing. Great characters with lots of somber moments, looking forward to hearing more!

Exciting.

This 3rd book seemed slightly slower than the first 2 at times. There is a lot more battle (which someone might actually prefer, just a personal opinion), but especially in the last part there are some moments that make this book fantastic to me. It is a lot more "human" if this word can be used for space marines, and the character developing is beautiful. Not to spoil anything I will just say that towards the end the tears of one character, and the few words of another almost moved me, and I wasn't expecting it in a 40K book. As always all of this is in no minor part merit of the unbelievably good narration by Toby Longworth. Looking forward to the next one!
