Very well made.

Really enjoyed this audio book, the story was fun but the poem bit near the end was a little too weird and threw me when I heard it. The production values of this are amazing as there are numerous effects at work and it really created an atmosphere whilst the story was being told.

Great story/smart funny writing/xlnt performance

As a lover of sci-fi but someone who was not familiar with the world of Elite-Dangerous I was unsure how much I would enjoy Kate Russell's first novel Mostly Harmless set in its world. I needn't have worried from the very get go Kate's narrative and writing style drag you effortlessly into the story . Added to this her brilliant performance as narrator and all characters and all that's left to do is sit back relax and be taken on a rip roaring adventure with Angel our reluctant Hero as her hitherto predictable life spins out of control both physically and metaphorically into the world of space pirates, murder, intrigue, assassinations, and all round 24/7 danger, all set in within complex and highly detailed sci-fi universe. Thank you Kate for an enthralling 6 hours of entertainment.

agony, pure agony.

what's to say the story is poor with the author determined to describe everything in detail, you don't get to truly grip the story due to the worst narrator I've even heard - talk about nails on a blackboard the voice just grates on your nerves. To be fair I'd have stopped reading the book though as the story is pointless, a real discredit to the Elite Dangerous genre. Can I have my money back?

Loved it!

I had already read "Wanted" which I thoroughly enjoyed, this is great too! The sound effects and music are nicely immersing.

Gets better as the story progresses

This took me a while to get into, but as the back third took hold, I found myself gripped. Very good stuff. Very.

Entertainment, thanks Kate Russell

An entertaining story, well written and performed. Dealing with the misadventures of Angel, a rather hapless commander

Generic space nonesense, horribly produced

I'm a big fan of the Elite universe, but this audiobook does not do any of it any justice. As a stand-alone book, it's poorly written, inconsistent and full of unlikeable, unrelatable characters. As a story set in the "Elite Universe", other than mentioning the name of some of the ships, without any attempt to explore or expand lore, the politics or even the threat of alien invasion, it's really just a poor cash in. The narrative doesn't seem to know whether to be tongue in cheek or deadly serious, with a juxtaposition of childish dialog and events alongside really poorly written, uncomfortably presented sexual assault and drug-taking scenes. Characterisation of male and female characters is just embarrassing and the delivery only goes to emphasize the horrible stereotypes incorporated into the narrative. The production is absolutely infuriating, with every single line of spoken dialogue delivered with this weird echo filter. Not sure if it's meant to sound "spacey" but it's utterly distracting and sounds terrible. Kate does at least attempt to differentiate character voices, but it's pretty badly done and the echo effect makes each voice sound pretty much the same anyway. Really disappointing cash in on a game franchise - avoid.

Naff in the extreme.

Kate cannot write sci fi, nor can she read well enough to deliver something anyone would want to listen to unless they were deeply in to self harm. I’d avoid this like the plague.

Meh

I personally don't understand the hype behind this one. It has its moments, but it's rife with inappropriately timed jokes and too many Douglas Adams references, the main character's motivations don't make much sense, the supporting cast is forgettable at best, and the overall story is kind of, to put it bluntly, ridiculous.

And don't even get me started on Doris...

Kate Russell's performance is well done, however, I have to give her that.

Book is not worth reading / listening to.

What would have made Elite: Mostly Harmless better?

New characters.

What was most disappointing about Kate Russell’s story?

Very depressing for my taste. The book depicts the women as depressed immature gay/bisexuals always overreacting to all situations and the men are all dumb sexual perverts.

Would you be willing to try another one of Kate Russell’s performances?

Maybe, but the book/story would have to be good.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Elite: Mostly Harmless?

I would have to reject this book from being published

Any additional comments?

I could not take it anymore and gave up on the book.

An entertainingly told tale.

The book was alright, the story drags on in detail of several things it REALLY didn't need to, I can think of three instances of this. However, the rest played out alright.
To Audible: There seems to be a hiccup in the file, I believe around what Audible App claims is Chapter 19 the book replays the last four or five chapters on accident.

Highly entertaining space pulp fiction

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This story is a classic adventure story in the vein of pulp adventure fiction with heavy shades of noir, all set against the space opera backdrop of Frontier's Elite setting. If you're looking for critical gold, this isn't your story. If you're looking for something that would make a pretty good movie and tells like an engaging adventure, this hits the mark perfectly.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Dread Catherine, although I have a lot of affection for Angel Rose. Catherine's pragmatism and the fact that she has a tragic backstory that she doesn't spend a whole lot of time in self-exposition (it is shown rather than told) makes her a comfortably familiar trope well applied, inserted into the story effectively without clubbing the audience over the head with who she is.

What about Kate Russell’s performance did you like?

She does a pretty good job at voice-acting even if she is not known as a voice actress. I'm also a sucker for her voice. That is perhaps a matter of personal taste, but it works for me.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. It took me two sittings, but it's over 8 hours in the reading so that's a long time to sit.

Any additional comments?

Chapters 19 and 20 are repeated in "21" and "22", which is a fault of editing. I'm surprised the editors didn't catch that.

Horrific Violence Porn

Mortified by this terrible attempt at an addition to my beloved Elite universe. I am deeply sorry for whatever psychological wounds the author has suffered. May God bring you peace.

Umm, wtf

Keeping in mind that this book is just fan fiction it really is quite good, definitely worth a listen while you're flying around in space doing some bounty hunting. A couple minor issues here and there but I really was loving the story... That is until the end, for some reason there is a truly horrible poem crammed in the ending talking about having to wait for a sequel to find out what happens, then the poem says just kidding here's the ending... But then it's just more nothing that wraps nothing up for the character, it's the laziest "ending" of all time. It feels like the story was left half complete, super disappointing. Would have definitely given it 4-5 stars except the last bit ruins it. Bummer.

Excellent Elite Goodness!

The narrator (and author) is very British (I think, maybe from Wales?) so there was a small hurtle for me as a US-American. But the book was excellent. Great sound effects and well written. A lot of Elite elements and sound effects reminded me I was in the Elite universe. Great job Kate Russell!

O7 commanders

That cobra had an extra hard point if you pay attention. Quite different from the usual two med two small hard points a cobra usually has. Other than that, it was a good listen to.
