Publisher's Summary

Henry and Jason somehow survived being kidnapped to Ludus, a monster-filled, sword and sorcery world. They managed to make friends, pay their rent, and they even founded their own adventuring business, Delvers LLC.

Unfortunately, by overcoming the odds and creating a reputation for themselves in such short time, monarchs and nobles have taken notice of the two men from Earth. Foreign, deadly struggles may be unavoidable for Delvers LLC.

Henry and Jason are about to discover something even more dangerous than murderous monsters on Ludus: politics.

"not too bad at all :)"

I have to admit this one took me a little longer to pick back up than some other second books have. And I really wasn't sure why. I think the characters in the beginning of this and the situation they find themselves in just didn't grab me as much as the MC's being stranded on Ludus in the first book.

However it did pick up, and I was glad that I stuck around.

The POV switches were handled a lot better in this book, considering there were only a couple of changes in the first, this had a lot more balance in it, and because I'd gotten to know the others, it was good to get inside their heads a little more.

I've seen some of the other reviews and comments about Thirsty as a character, and I have to admit, I loved him/her. I think this is exactly the kind of situation and personal event that would happen. It wasn't his fault he ended up on Ludus anymore than it was for Henry and Jason, and Jeff's characterisation of him/her both were fab. I really enjoyed the performance and the person underneath it. Thirsty plays a great and integral part in this book and I hope that we do see more of her :)

Overall, this book did seem to take on a life of it's own, there was the onset of their journey and then it was taken over by having to defend against a horrific attack. I thought it all came together really well. And Jason, was just fab. No spoilers, but the ending, brilliant.

It may have seemed a little on the short side, but only because we know that although this was a novel and story on it's own that there's a lot of set up and more adventures to have.

I kinda think this would be the series for me that I'd binge listen to, one after the other because that would make this much more fun. Waiting on the next one is hard...

Come on Blaise and Jeff. More!!!

Fun book, entertaining throughout. Great performance, the extra work done by the narrator really pays off. Can't wait for the next one

    "Not complete"

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the book and liked the characters a lot more in this one (the first book had too much self deprecation and loathing). The story was interesting and makes you want to continue.

But, it does not feel like a complete book and more like a small stepping stone.

"A great Delvers fix but leaves you wanting more"

Good god, you know I thought this book would have lasted a bit longer. However it seems when you cant turn the thing off it hardly lasts any time at all, and that in itself I think says more about how good the book is without giving anything of the story away. I could nitpick a few parts if I am entirely honest, but it would take effort. The only real complaint I can think of however is that the main circle of characters shifts back and forth through this book. Then again book 3 could prove me entirely wrong.........remind me again why book 3 hasn't come out yet?

    "Story is wonderfully fun"

This story is great and a perfect follow up to the first book. I recommend this book to anyone looking for emotional and whimsical characters that you start to care about more and more throughout the story.

"Decent battle, lots of emo, not much else"
Would you try another book from Blaise Corvin and/or Jeff Hays?

Narrator is fine. Author needs to reign in the emo. Not much happens in this book except one pretty bad ass battle. And lots and lots of emotional anguish/introspection from the characters... Get over it already.

Would you ever listen to anything by Blaise Corvin again?

ehhh.... might give the next one a try. The world and overall premise is super creative. Cut/edit out the emotional introspection that made up about a third of this book and it would have been a great short story. Seriously a huge part of the book is the characters struggling with their feelings. Weak.

What about Jeff Hays’s performance did you like?

    Solid. Rock on dude.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Not sure how so much emotion and self introspection would be captured in a film. Close up of a tear rolling down a cheek? Then a close up of the next character with a tear rolling down their cheek? And so on... Needs way more world building and plot development. Way, way more.

    Any additional comments?

    Nope.

    "Excellent story"

I really loved book one, this book was also very fun. It did feel short however and there were a few parts dealing with Jason and Henry's introductory speeches about "Thirsty" that seemed quite preachy and a little out of place. Also, "Thirsty" seemed rather stereotypical as if the author watched a few minutes of an overly referenced tv program and then attempted to mix that show and some racial preconceptions togeather to form his character. I do like the way Corvin is keeping his story on the move and I'm really looking forward to the next book.

"Enjoyable, but feels short even though it isn't?"

thoroughly enjoyable however by the end you're left wondering "wait it's over", because it feels like nothing's really progressed from the start.
As someone who has been reading ahead in this series, it does lay some groundwork for the next book, but it feels like half of the next book should have been included in this book and the next book should have had a couple extra wrap up chapters.

    "Not for me"
What would have made Obligations Incurred better?

Not so campy, cut back on the cheesy dialog. cut back or kill off lame characters that were brought into the story that were particularly unbelievable and cringe worthy. get back to
writing with a greater similarity to the first book in series.

Would you ever listen to anything by Blaise Corvin again?

At this point I don't know, i liked the first book for the most part. but if the writing and character development keeps going this way i would have to pass on future installments.

What about Jeff Hays’s performance did you like?

the reading performer has a broad range of voices and accents. He also does a good job acting out the different parts, giving personality to the written text.

    Any additional comments?

this was obviously not for me, had some good parts and there was a possibility for a good story that just got too cheesy and somewhat unbelievable, and for a fan of scifi/fantasy that is a true feat.

"Good but not as good as number one"

listen I liked the first book a lot but the author spends an extremely long time talking about homosexuality and religion. I don't mind listening to this stuff but it took way to long to get through that and it made me almost return the book. If I wanted to hear liberal or conservatives argue about political issues I would turn on the news for a while not spend 13$ on a fantasy book. The only other problem I had was how much of a stereotype the only homosexual person is portrayed.

Yet it was still a pretty good book. The narrator never disappoints and most of the story is interesting.

"It was like purchasing the first few chapters"
Would you try another book from Blaise Corvin and/or Jeff Hays?

Jeff Hays did well but the book did not have a story or at least a complete one. More like just the first few chapters of a book. at this rate it will take two or three more books to complete just one story So no will not purchase from Blaise Corvin again.

Has Obligations Incurred turned you off from other books in this genre?

    no

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Good change in voice and I could tell who was talking from the sound of the voice

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    NA

    Any additional comments?

Give the reader at least a sub-story that completes in a book. For me I feel ripped off buying a part of a book for the cost of a complete book.
