Story
Falling stars are supposed to be a lucky sign, but not for Austen. Her new job as a secretary in an international games company isn't off to a good start. Her first assignment - decorating the Christmas tree in the lobby - results in a trip to the ER after Dee, the company's second-in-command, gets hit by the star-shaped tree topper. Dee blames her instant attraction to Austen on her head wound, not the magic of the falling star. She's determined not to act on it, especially since Austen has no idea that Dee is practically her boss.

Griffin Westmore doesn't believe in love, either, but she's one of those not-so-fictional shape-shifters who secretly live among humans. When Jorie's writing gets uncomfortably close to the truth, Griffin is sent to investigate and, if necessary, kill the author to protect the secrets of her kind. Warning, there might be triggers for some people
I have listened to this story twice already. I love the slow pace, the realistic feelings of someone who's gone through trauma. Not something to listen to if you are going through a period of acute anxiety (I certainly couldn't). Great writing too. Jae has never disappointed me yet (hopefully that'll never happen)

Wonderful love story
The frustration felt by the heroine Aiden when the woman she was strongly attracted to became the victim of an extremely brutal hate crime was so well written I just couldn't stop reading. Jae is now responsible for my losing manyhours of sleep lol. I'm still only half way through but totally hooked on the slowly developing relationship between the main characters, and Abby Craden just has to be one of the best narrators I've heard so far, she tells the story so well. And although I've not finished the book yet I've already bought Book 2. Please Jae, let's have more in this series

Book number 1 of 2. Be warned its about rape.
I listened to these books in the wrong, order by mistake, and yet they worked really well. This is a sensitively written, affirming story but nevertheless it brought up lots of feelings which, as a survivor, I struggled with even though my story was nothing like this one.
I may be overly critical but there are things that do not stand scrutiny in the plot. A couple of unbelievable police blunders, a number of important testimony omissions, trial arguments that do not make sense and plot threads that are left hanging across both books BUT Jae's sensitive and intelligent treatment of the repercussions of rape more than compensate.
Abby Craden is not my favourite narrator but she does well with this one.

Beautiful ending. 10/10
I think it's important to mention that this book is vastly based around sexual assault and if that's something that hints a little to close to home this book is probably not for you. Although this book is based around an awful situation it was an amazing listen. I loved the characters, their personalities and how the book teaches us that even if you become a victim of crime as long as you've got your family and friends (support) you can get through anything. 10/10 Lesbian book.

Amazing book
To take such a sensitive topic and spin it into an amazing story is why Jea is in my top 10 authors. This book was very intense as one of the MC is raped right at the beginning of the book which made it a tough read at times but if you can push past it it is worth it. I ended up invested in Dawn’s healing journey and how Aiden was so patient with her. It was well written with likable characters intertwined in a heartfelt storyline.

Not what I expected
This isn't your normal romance novel. It delves into serious subject matter and situations. But what I found amazing is this didn't end with catching the bad guy and getting together. The aftermath is given. where talking about 5 chapters worth. Very well done. Highly recommend!
As always Abby Craden is amazing bringing these characters to life.

What can go wrong?
When Jae writes and Abby Craden narrates there is always a success. And this book is no different.
I loved Aiden, she is a strong balanced woman, both in her profession and her love. She reminded me of “Olivia Benson” from SUV. The story was well developed and I liked the court scenes, these scenes Iar missed in SUV.
So thank you Jae for actually detailing that.

Beautiful Love Story
This is not a typical romance. It’s the story of two women helping each other heal and grow through creating a vulnerable, trusting relationship. If you have unresolved sexual abuse history, this book could be overwhelming.
I realized part of why I enjoy Jae’s books. She creates safe, secure attachment as the basis of each romance. Her stories are about women loving and accepting each other as they are, and in so doing, growing and transforming.
This is not an easy, breezy romance. The content is challenging. That said, I highly recommend this book and I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series.
Again…trigger warning if you have a sexual abuse history.

Aiden is a police detective with the Portland Sex Crimes Unit. Fawn works with victims of rape and assault. Hard to get through
Rape and the emotional aftermath of that violation are THE plot point for this story.
A little bit Law and Order SVU, a little bit “romance”(?). It’s a difficult listen. Slow. Tedious. Emotionally hard.
Maybe this is an accurate description of some people’s experience through that trauma and journey back to a full, loving, healthy, sexual relationship. But it is not what I’m looking for in a romance. Some kind of conflict, for that delicious kind of tension that makes you keep reading/listening to find the resolution is good. This story is just tension and pain. Hour after hour of it. She was violated. It’s painful and difficult. It’s a long road back to any kind of “normal”. Understandable, but not the escape I’m looking for in my fiction.
I kept listening, waiting for it to get better, waiting to find the lighter happier times these characters deserved. It never happened. There was an HEA of sorts, but not until the very last minutes. I feel exhausted at the end of this listen. Really not what I look for from this genre.
Quality narration. Was not enough to redeem this title for me.

Fine, but not fun at all
I'm not sensitive to triggers by any means, to the point that you'll find me muttering about how we all need to learn better coping skills or process trauma rather than asking the world to bend. That said, this was triggery for me. I don't want to commit a spoiler, and everyone is different. But go easy if you have a trigger happy brain. The writing is good, but I was ill at ease for most of it.
