Summary

Half a million dollars will be Celeste Thorne’s reward for spending four years of her life in total isolation. No faces. No voices. No way to leave.

Since Celeste has never really worried about being alone, the generous paycheck she’ll receive for her participation in the solitary psychological experiment seems like easy money.

When she finds an injured hiker in the woods bordering her living compound, her strictly governed world is thrown into disarray. But even as she struggles with the morality of breaking the rules of the experiment, Celeste can’t deny her growing attraction to the kind and enigmatic Olivia Soldano. Still, how much can you really trust a stranger? And how much can you trust yourself when you know all the faces you’ve seen and voices you’ve heard for the past three years have only been your imagination?

But what’s real? Celeste’s reality may lie somewhere between the absolute truth and a carefully constructed deception.

Incredible

Again I am blown away by how Abby Craden just takes E. J.Noyes’ books to the next level. This was an interesting read with some beautiful writing. The audio ups the tension, doubles the emotion and totally absorbs you in the story. Listen to it in the dark with headphones for the full effect. You need it in your life, you really do!

Just Perfect

I never write 5* reviews, there is always something I don’t like. But it’s different with this one, it’s absolutely perfect. I’ve never felt so many emotions listening to an audiobook, it’s been absolutely incredible and my absolute favourite by a mile!

Definitely the book of the year.

Wow, I was desperate to skip to the end, but didn’t want to finish the journey.

Gripping and Unputdownable

I LOVED the book, read it twice back to back then bought the audiobook.
Is it possible it could be better than the printed version?
Such an original idea, such a nice change from the usual romances or crime.
Definitely one I’ll be returning to again and again.

Had me hooked

This book had me hooked from beginning to end. This book is about Celeste and spending years on her own as part of an experiment in exchange for generous amount of money, but when a stranger comes into her life unexpectedly (Olivia) Celeste worries that the experiment has been compromised. It felt very real on what it would be like for the mind spending all that time on your own, with no one to communicate with. It was well written and excellently narrated.

Audio book even better

I thought that reading a book could not be improved on. I was wrong. Abby Craden has brought this excellent book to life. I cannot think of a better narrator to do EJ Noyes books into the audio world. This book should be number one in a number of categories not just Lesbian Romance. I have already preordered EJ’s next book and can’t wait.

Alone...Very Intense!

I really like E.J. Noyes as an author and Abby Craden as narrator. That is a great combination. That said, I wasn’t certain I could handle the “alone” theme for 3-4 years. Picture this: no faces, no music, no tv, no Internet, no phone. Yikes...no phone! Celeste had the motivation to try, and with difficulty succeeded....until a stranger arrived. Celeste questioned her sanity, worried about breaking rules of her contract, and made her decision. I really liked the book and the varied emotions conveyed. The story will grab you and keep ahold until the last line. And Abby Craden...is spectacular!

Meh!

Wasn't a bad book but just long and drawn out. While the plot was an interesting one and could've had so many twists, it was so slow and almost boring in some parts, eventually being somewhat anticlimactic. The narrator was fabulous tho, she is on eof my favorites, so I expected no less. Overall, I would not waste an entire credit on this, maybe if you catch a sale.

Well done

A very intriguing read that I enjoyed immensely.
E.J. Noyes has written a page turner that will have you laughing one minute and sniffling the next.
And Abby Cradens narration is the proverbial icing on the cake. A must read or listen (or both).

Excellent psychological thriller

First time I have listened to a book by this author. Her character development is marvelous, the way she shows us how Celeste coped with her abusive upbringing and how she now copes over new developments during the course of the book. What happens when Olivia is added to her private world. An interesting book for anyone looking for an unusual twist and turns in the story with a romance thrown in.

Slow Build, But Paid Off

It took me a minute or several to become really invested. However, I continued to listen and in the end I really enjoyed the intelligence and emotional depth in the writing. It is not an ordinary scenario which I found really pleasant as well.

Another winner

Even though unlike many listeners I'm not a fan of this narrator, I thoroughly enjoyed the audio version of this wonderful book. Psychological (but not a thriller), emotional and beautifully exploring human feelings and reactions. I enjoyed every minute of it and I'm sure I'll listen to this book again and again. Brilliant.

E.J. Notes "ALONE" is by far one of THE BEST books I've ever read!!! DO NOT miss the opportunity to listen to Abby Craden narrate it on audible.....I HAVE NO WORDS!!! Thank you for this book E.J., Celeste & Olivia's story reached down inside and took me places I never would have thought by imagining myself alone in the world for years! Their story of love and redemption is like nothing I've ever experienced in a book before......and I've read plenty of AWESOME lesfic!!!! Not sure how it's possible to be this FANTASTIC of a writer, but E.J. NAILS IT!!!

Such a Great Listen!

I thought the idea for this audio book sounded interesting and I love Abby Craden, so I got it. From the first words to the last, so so good! I loved Celeste, the main character, who is on assignment/being tested on basically being alone for 3 years in isolation until she shoots a stranger on the property and then everything starts, so get comfy, because you wont want to stop listening until it's amazing ending. well done on writing and narration.

great psychological romance

it was hard for me to get into this book. almost 5 hours in and I just wanted to stop. I've stopped, started, stopped, started, but I stuck with it. And whew let me tell you, I loved it. I wanted more and more in the end. but I'm happy with it. the first half is predictable, like you know what's going on. but, you have to remember to separate yourself from the main character... she's not you. awesome awesome book. I definitely recommend with the caveat that, it's hard to get into at the start.

Abby Craden is as always bloody brilliant!
