About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

THE PHENOMENAL INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER - 1 MILLION COPIES SOLD.

Transform your life with tiny changes in behaviour, starting now.

People think that when you want to change your life, you need to think big. But world-renowned habits expert James Clear has discovered another way. He knows that real change comes from the compound effect of hundreds of small decisions: doing two push-ups a day, waking up five minutes early, or holding a single short phone call.

He calls them atomic habits.

In this ground-breaking book, Clears reveals exactly how these minuscule changes can grow into such life-altering outcomes. He uncovers a handful of simple life hacks (the forgotten art of Habit Stacking, the unexpected power of the Two Minute Rule, or the trick to entering the Goldilocks Zone), and delves into cutting-edge psychology and neuroscience to explain why they matter. Along the way, he tells inspiring stories of Olympic gold medalists, leading CEOs, and distinguished scientists who have used the science of tiny habits to stay productive, motivated, and happy.

These small changes will have a revolutionary effect on your career, your relationships, and your life.

Critic reviews

A supremely practical and useful book. James Clear distils the most fundamental information about habit formation, so you can accomplish more by focusing on less. (Mark Manson, author of The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck)
It's an absolutely fabulous book and it doesn't surprise me that it's sold so many copies . . . Very useful, very practical, super well-researched. (Dr Rangan Chatterjee)
Atomic Habits is a step-by-step manual for changing routines . . . Inspiring real-life stories.
James Clear has spent years honing the art and studying the science of habits. This engaging, hands-on book is the guide you need to break bad routines and make good ones.
A special book that will change how you approach your day and live your life.
Excellent . . . I’m almost done with my PhD in organisational psychology and James did a brilliant job describing much of the science in psychology and neuroscience.
I’d attribute about 60 per cent of my good habits to [James Clear’s] blog and this book is rapidly filling in the other 40 per cent.
Zeroes in on the science behind building good habits and breaking bad ones . . . enlightening.
Atomic Habits [is] a new book by James Clear that I’m relying on to develop realistic goals.
In Atomic Habits, author and self-improvement guru James Clear outlines a practical framework for improving just about every aspect of your life through the power of habit.

First of all I want to thank James Clear for simplifying the science of habits.
I’ve been in and out of hospitals for the past 3 years because of depression amongs other things. I’ve struggled to get back on my habits. I got diagnosed with ADHD as an adult which made even harder to start focusing back on the small habits in life. Everything from my mouth hygiene to sleeping was out of order and even my psychologist was struggling to get me back on track. I started with flossing my teeth, now I wake up early, I work, do yoga and slowly building up my life again and his book is one of the tools that helped me do that.

I started from flossing my teeth.

One of my favourite books.

Read in a clear and descriptive nature with great examples to back up the tips, from habit forming and breaking to productivity.

Just as you think it's going over old ground, up comes something new.

Great listen, very helpful, and I've read/listened to a LOT of motivation, productivity and mindset books!

Wealth of tips and knowledge

This has been such a valuable read, I feel empowered to break engrained, negative habits and understand more about how to help yourself to succeed. I have gone on to alter eating habits and lose weight, as well as cut down aimless hours spent on social media! Read it, you won’t regret it!

Read it, and sort your life out!

There is a lot of conflicting advice in the improving performance space. James gives a logical approach based on his own recovery from a serious head injury. His sequence of cue/craving/response/reward or make it obvious/make it attractive/make it easy/ make it worth, it is fairly easy to follow. James also doesn't suggest that everyone can do everything to the same level, whilst carefully steering away from the nature v nurture debate. What we can do is improve the way we do everything. Through marginal gains. Links to a useful free newsletter and advice on applying to parenting. Clearly narrated and just the right length.

Concepts such as habit stacking make the establishment of one good habit lead to another.

For all those struggling to get to work on time. complete deadlines or just be more organised definitely worth a listen. You could say a lot of it was common sense, however if it were that easy this book wouldn't exist.

A simple method to improve the efficiency of life
