Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of We Need to Weaken the Mixture by Guy Martin, read by Dean Williamson.

'I can't stop biting off more than I can chew. Maybe I'm wearing everything out, but I believe the body is a fantastic thing, and it will repair itself and I'll go again. If it's running too rich, I don't stop what I'm doing, just weaken the mixture and carry on.'

Since we last heard from him, Guy Martin has restored a 1983 Williams F1 car then raced Jenson Button in it; helped to build a WWI tank; ridden with Putin's favourite biker gang the Night Wolves; competed on the classic endurance circuit; stood on top of one of Chernobyl's nuclear reactors and taken part in his last ever Isle of Man TT.

Then there's the stuff he really can't wait to get out of bed for: 12-hour shifts for a local haulage firm and taytie farming in his new John Deere tractor.

Besides all this, he's saved his local pub from closure and become a dad.

But let him tell you his own stories, in his own words:

'You're getting it from the horse's mouth. No filter. I hope you enjoy it.'

I found it enthralling!

I'm not into motorcycle racing in any way, shape or form. I ride a custom motorbike but can't stand sports bikes. So on the surface I'm not the sort of person you'd think would listen to this book. However, I've seen Guy on various rebuilding shows and they fascinate me. He seemed like a normal, down to earth bloke so I thought I'd give this book a chance and I'm glad I did! He gives an incite into a world alien to me (hasn't turned me into a racing fan though) and he comes across as the type of bloke anyone would want as a friend or in their corner. His work ethic is second to none. It's definitely well worth listening to! The narrator does a good job, not quite 'Guy' but then, who is? Someone else said it should be a Yorkshire narrator but I'm not sure why when Guy is from Lincolnshire! Download this book, you won't be disappointed. I'm off to get the rest of his books now....

Another good listen. Give it a go! Much enjoyed.

I am not a huge motorsport fan but I’ve been aware of Guy Martin since my son bought a DVD about his biking life some years ago. Since seeing his TV programs I thought I’d give the first audiobook a go. Really enjoyed that and everyone of them since. I especially like his casual style that feels like he’s chatting to you. The narration is perfectly delivered, Dean Williamson does a fantastic job and I forget it’s not Guy speaking.
I don’t understand a lot about engines (a lady in my late 50’s with no interest in getting to grips with an engine!) so most of the technical information Guy gives is beyond me. That said I do understand quite a lot more about compression thanks to such an easy description! But it is by no means all technical speak and he is just very funny. Tells it like it is and to hell with anyone who doesn’t like it. You can really believe what he is saying. As he mentions its “truth Tourette’s”, he can’t help himself.
I’m just so impressed by his attitude to “fame” and his disinterest in it. Now a family man, very much with his feet firmly on the ground.
Sorry I’ve rambled a bit. A really interesting and funny listen that I will enjoy again. Looking forward to another “diary update” when Guy feels like it.

"Keep um coming"

Never get tired of reading Guy's book even though sometimes I feel that Guys lost the plot, then he writes another & I think actually he just different.. The main thing is I always have a chuckle..

Entertaining Guy Martin Update

This was a great balance of very technical bike stuff with an interesting update on what Guy has been doing with himself over the last few years.

Brian the chimp

Never been a fan of reading and I’m quite new to whole audio book world. Got a few of Guys books and never read them so thought would try this. Hooked is all I can say. Loved every second of it. Big Guy fan and if you’ve watched all of his tv bits you’ll love this. Gives you the behind the scenes if you will and a real flavour of the man him self. As a fellows Lincolnshire lad my self it’s great hearing the story’s. On the narrator him self cannot fault Dean. As a northerner himself it makes sense and flows brilliantly. Just got his next book and looking forward to digging in !
