Summary

SUNDAY TIMES NUMBER ONE BESTSELLER

The brilliant and provocative new book from one of the world’s foremost political writers

‘The anti-Western revisionists have been out in force in recent years. It is high time that we revise them in turn…’

In The War on the West, international bestselling author Douglas Murray asks: if the history of humankind is one of slavery, conquest, prejudice, genocide and exploitation, why are only Western nations taking the blame for it?

It’s become perfectly acceptable to celebrate the contributions of non-Western cultures, but discussing their flaws and crimes is called hate speech. What’s more it has become acceptable to discuss the flaws and crimes of Western culture, but celebrating their contributions is also called hate speech. Some of this is a much-needed reckoning; however, some is part of a larger international attack on reason, democracy, science, progress and the citizens of the West by dishonest scholars, hatemongers, hostile nations and human-rights abusers hoping to distract from their ongoing villainy.

In The War on the West, Douglas Murray shows the ways in which many well-meaning people have been lured into polarisation by lies, and shows how far the world’s most crucial political debates have been hijacked across Europe and America. Propelled by an incisive deconstruction of inconsistent arguments and hypocritical activism, The War on the West is an essential and urgent polemic that cements Murray’s status as one of the world’s foremost political writers.

In the land of the blind …

Finally, Douglas Murray has released a new book. Having listened to his previous works (The Madness of Crowds, The Strange Death of Europe), I have been eagerly anticipating his next reflection on the modern state of play.

Some of the events of recent years have had me scratching my head, (such as Germaine Greer being no platformed). This book provides the intellectual lubrication necessary to un-grind my gears.

‘The Author of This Work’ takes us on a tour through the riots, protests and the cultural speak of the last few years; focusing almost exclusively on events in the UK and America. Counter to the media message being pumped out, ‘the west must collectively sigh in shame’; this book makes a counter statement that we should respect the achievements of our society and, where possible, build on them.

Without repeating himself it is a perfect addition to his body of work. His three books, that I’ve listened to, all look at how our current society is being irreversibly vandalised, largely, from within. Each of his works deconstructs the myths that have been created around these new paradigms, then proceeds to skewer them and drag their creators into the light.

Instead of providing answers this is more a guide in what to look out for and how to counter some of the more spurious arguments of those who are seeking to redefine our society and create an entirely new paradigm.

Thankfully he is narrating again, Douglas Murray’s voice has a reassuring quality that falls somewhere between Rik Mayall and David Attenborough, it would not be out of place narrating a children’s book. If you’re listening to your books and not reading them then this is the kind of voice you’ll probably enjoy.

This is excellent

I did not think he could top his previous two books but he has! This is a brilliant , beautifully written critique of critical race theory, anti-white racism and the self-flagellation that only goes on in the West. And even though I felt angry quite a few times while listening, he writes with such an incisive wit, that I also had a few laughs as well.

Possibly the most important book of the century.

A must for anyone living in the West today. We need to come together if we're to avoid an ugly future and that effort needs to be made from both sides.

Enlightning about the warped narrative of the West

Fact filled, funny, tragic and empowering.
Narrated by the author himself who is a pleasure to listen to.

“Luck is a product of design”.

Douglas’ arguments and conclusions are excellently researched and stylishly presented as ever.

Yet again he picks apart the assertions of the modern day detractors of all we hold dear in The West.
I always knew that western society have always had to contend with an enemy within working against it. Douglas really drives home just how serious this ‘omnipresent and myopic hatred’ from the modern left actually is and just how convenient this is to our enemies in the CCP.

One of the big issues of our times

A great read/Listen. Fantastic that Douglas does his own narrating. he identifies and explains a terrifying sustained assault on our culture and Western values.

Douglas Murray for PM

I was minded to think much of this book before I read it, as usual Murray has surpassed my expectations.
The conclusion sums it up for me and I shan't spoil anything here.
I am minded to think that the west needs to pursue an aggressive isolationist stance now. As much as the conclusion wishes for a world of peaceful understanding and acceptance, the chapters before have highlighted in words what I feel already far too well.
We are beset with bad faith actors, entities, countries and continents.

Unbalanced

If you are interested in a balanced view of the state of the western world and how and the effect of a changing wider world. Then please don’t bother buying or reading this book.

The first book I have purchased I truly regret buying. Utter rightist clap trap.
