Summary
Engaging, incisive and acute, The New Puritans is a deeply necessary exploration of our current cultural climate and an urgent appeal to return to a truly liberal society.
The puritans of the seventeenth century sought to refashion society in accordance with their own beliefs, but they were deep thinkers who were aware of their own fallibility. Today, in the grasp of the new puritans, we see a very different story.
Leading a cultural revolution driven by identity politics and so-called 'social justice', the new puritanism movement is best understood as a religion - one that makes grand claims to moral purity and tolerates no dissent. Its disciples even have their own language, rituals and a determination to root out sinners through what has become known as 'cancel culture'.
In The New Puritans, Andrew Doyle powerfully examines the underlying belief-systems of this ideology, and how it has risen so rapidly to dominate all major political, cultural and corporate institutions. He reasons that, to move forward, we need to understand where these new puritans came from and what they hope to achieve. Written in the spirit of optimism and understanding, Doyle offers an eloquent and powerful case for the reinstatement of liberal values and explains why it's important we act now.
Critic reviews
'A sober but devastating skewering of cancel culture and the moral certainties it shares with religious fundamentalism' Sunday Times
'Andrew Doyle has written a masterful broadside against the woke that will also discomfit the anti-woke, proposing to both the radical notion that rather than being identities, we embrace our status as individuals' Critic

Well constructed and well presented
I consider myself politically aware and have listened to much of the content of this book being presented by others already. Even so, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will say there were also some fresh characterisations and fresh ways of presenting things. This isn't a preachy book or accusatory one, it just breaks down the different elements of the culture war in a very palatable way. Whatever side of the political spectrum you fall on, this is a great book to experience.

interesting, educational and frightening
Anybody seeking to understand the abandonment of reason, facts and truth by "left wing" theorists and politicians should read/listen to this book.

Essential listening
Another unmissable and important listen from the inestimable Andrew Doyle.
The authors grasp on "woke" culture, is unparalleled, and serves as warning of the clear and present socio-political decline we are all suffering.
'The New Puritans' should be required reading for any intellectual, irrespective of their political views.

Excellent analysis of the current situation
This book not only highlights the issues facing the absence of dialogue in the current environment from individuals companies and academic institutions but also suggests the long forgotten art of listening to the other side and arguing with reason and intelligence. For those of us capable of doing so we can listen to this book and both agree and disagree with various arguments proposed however I am sure many will dismiss it with the “ burn the witch” rhetoric which is now so familiar in all forms of media…. Social or otherwise

Excellent
An eye opening indictment of nefarious cult poisoning western culture from within. Andrew presents a well researched case against the new puritans in a manner that is both thought provoking and entertaining; I look forward to more work from the author.

Articulate analysis of an unpalatable subject
Andrew is a fabulous narrator, something I should have suspected before my purchase. His dissection of the 'New Puritans' is so precise that you will never again lack for indepth responses to meeting one.

An important defence of true liberalism and critical thinking
Overall an excellent and intelligently written assessment of culture wars, and a recommended read no matter what your political or personal stance on current debates. For me this book felt a little bit long, especially as much of the topic was already well covered by Douglas Murray in “The Madness of Crowds”. Doyle is not quite as ascerbic as Murray in his writing style, but this book perhaps makes a more palatable read for the more neutral audience. It makes very good points about the necessity of a return to respectful debate, criticising ideas not people, and separating judgements of art from the artist.

Sanity summarised
Great collation of evidence, with examples, of the mad religion enshrined by the social justice ‘elect’ in Britain today. Well worth a listen, reassure yourself that there are more sane people out there than you think. Confirming that Institutional capture must be resisted to restore balance and arrest the rot!
