Lord Nathaniel Harte, the disagreeable duke of Beswick, spends his days smashing porcelain, antagonizing his servants, and snarling at anyone who gets too close. With a ruined face like his, it's hard to like much about the world - especially smart-mouthed harpies (with lips better suited to kissing than speaking) who brave his castle with indecent proposals. But Lady Astrid Everleigh will stop at nothing to see her younger sister safe from a notorious scoundrel, even if it means offering herself up on a silver platter to the forbidding Beast of Beswick himself.

Summary
The dark, erotic duet by Victoria Vale, now in one bundle!
"Dark, gothic, and sizzling hot, The Villain is Jane Eyre meets Fifty Shades." (NYT Times best-selling author Anna Zaires)
Book One: The Villain
A heartless villain…
Lady Daphne Fairchild braves the journey from London to the wilds of Scotland alone with one purpose in mind: confront the man who purposely and methodically set out to ruin the men of her family. But what he demands in exchange for answers will thrust Daphne into a world of mystery, hatred, and lust.
An indecent proposal…
Thirty days and nights in the bed of the Earl of Hartmoor...this is the price she must pay to learn the truth of the dark lord’s vendetta against her family. Yet, when she accepts the offer, Daphne never expects to find that nothing is what she thought it was, and the truth proves far harder to stomach than she ever imagined.
Book 2: The Dove
An unexpected obsession…
After 30 days and nights in his bed, Adam sends Daphne back to London a fallen woman, the final blow that will see the Fairchild family scorned by society. However, he is hard-pressed to forget the beauty of her submission, or the brief moments of peace and balance she brought his tortured existence. Despite the bad blood between their families, he is determined to possess her, to stake his claim on her beyond the 30 nights she gave him. She will fight him at every turn … which will only make the chase, and her inevitable surrender, all the better.
A choice between love and retribution…
When the consequences of Adam’s deeds begin to fall back on not only him, but Daphne, as well, he is forced to bring her under his protection. He will end this feud between his family and hers once and for all, and is determined to put her behind him when all is said and done. Yet, it becomes increasingly clear that setting her aside will not be as simple as he thought. Her heart could be his for the taking, but only if he will abandon his vendetta against her family once and for all. Will Adam choose a lifetime of peace and love with Daphne … or will the need for revenge consume him, and eventually, destroy him?

Morally conflicted
Strong woman who craves sexual and emotionsl abuse from cruel 'master' spurns brother who raped other innocent women. Our virgin heroine is violently raped by her master. He deliberately and publicly humiliates her and she condones it even though she is angered and hurt by it.
This book will confuse impressional people who may believe that violence and abuse in a relationship is normal.

loved it
Loved every minute of these 2 stories. I couldn't stop listening. I also listened to Hart book 1.5 in between them. The narrator was very good. He made the story even better. Very sexy Male voice of the Hero and very good feminine voices too. Will listen to more books that Darcy Stark narrates. And I'll definitely be listening to the rest of this series and the rest of Victoria Vale's books.
Oh and by the way love this cover and especially the cover of book 1.5, what a beautiful man. I'm using it as my wallpaper.

She did it, AGAIN!
All I can say is VV is now officially on my list (I tend to be an avid Quick, Garwood, and Lindsey fan - but starting to roam into Susan Johnson, A. Chase, and other regency categories and stumbled on VV).
This duet sang like an unchained melody! High notes, low notes, crescendos...you name it Adam and Daphne brought it.
Hint/spoiler: Despite those low notes - just when you thought Daphne going to let Adam walk out the door the real hero presents himself (shock and awe), slaps her back to reality, and the mismatched HEA commences!
By the way, not that I'm trying to harp on other authors, but I need, no I DEMAND, that Darcy reads Alyson Chase's books (specifically the LOD series) he is the voice that will bring that series to life. I'm thinking to tag both of them on Twitter to make this happen. It would be great if the Audible team did that leg work for me...
Enjoy the story little doves, needless to say - its 2:15 am and I've got work at 9 am but I would be damned if I did not finish this duet... so I reccomend you start it early on Saturday morning instead of on a week night.
Ah well, guess Starbucks will get some extra dollars from me later on today...and it will be worth it. XOXO

Very Best Ever Enemy to Lover
Darcy Stark should narrate every romance. My goodness, I could fall into his voice. He is magnificent and easily differentiates each character with his talented voice. I adore Victoria Vale and her mastery of the sex scenes as well as the build up if emotion in every setting. My favorite scenes were when Daphne is caring for the sister and the ending of the duology...where Daphne forces Adam to admit his feelings for her.

Enjoyable period BDSM romance
I really enjoyed the storey - there were a number of little things that spoiled it for me - a couple of uses of American terminology when it’s set in Scotland and England, an a couple of implausible behaviours on the part of the heroine, but overall it was a very good story which engaged the reader, and I’d definitely read more by this author and would recommend it for anyone looking for period romance with some light BDSM elements. The biggest issue was the narration - while he had a good range of voices for different characters I think he must have never heard a Scottish accent, because this was nothing like one. A bit of Leeds and a little of north of England but nothing like a Scottish accent. This was disappointing and did take from my enjoyment, but readers in the US/ Canada and Australia perhaps won’t notice this enough to be out off by it.

Loved the Narrator
VV has the best villains...this narrator gave each of the characters their own voice. You always knew who was speaking without being told. If you don't like dark villainous alpha men, you won't like this book. It is a dark romance. If you like anti heroes, you will love this one.

Amazing 👏 I fell in love with the characters, the storyline & Hart's voice!!! A great story of revenge, lust, determination & love. I didn't want it to end... The storyline has many characters woven into it, the villains surprising & the hero just delicious! I went straight thru on both stories... wonderful! one suggestion if you can listen/read the prequel Hart... gives you a great foundation.

Did not hold my attention
I got this because I was looking for something erotic with a whole lot of sex balanced with romance and a solid storyline. Funny enough, the story kept me engaged, but the sex did not hold my attention. I think I’m in the minority, but the sex scenes were boring. I like a good BDSM story, but I found the hero crass and evil. I understand his thirst for revenge, but how do you justify getting justice for your sister by doing the same thing that was done to her to someone else, maybe that’s why I couldn’t get into the sex scenes. I didn’t find any romance in this, Adam was mean to the very last chapter and Daphne was a doormat from beginning to end. I would have enjoyed Adam doing a little chasing for something other than sex with Daphne. And why couldn’t Daphne be strong and sexual? She showed signs of a strong female, but always succumb to Adam’s sexual needs instead of standing her ground. Narration was great and ran seamless between male and female.

Perfection
This is the second time I’ve listened to this story since it came out and it was just as good the second time around. As someone with a large library with close to 1000 books in my audible collection alone, this writer/narrator combination is perfection. The writing is smart and extremely sexy with narration that has no comparison.
This book prompted my initial interest in Victoria Vale’s books and Darcy Stark performs an incredibly and impelling sexy villain. Especially when addressing his “Little Dove”. As someone who has enjoyed Vale’s writing, and I can only hope she comes out with similar stories in the future. Either way, I’ll enjoy this one for years to come.
