Summary

A proper young lady should never attend a masque.... Aphrodite is no lady.

Betrothal to the callous Lord Blackhall painted a future devoid of love. Upon his death, Lady Caroline Wilmont is promised to the younger brother. Caroline refuses to allow her first taste of desire to be at the hands of a man who would rather have any woman but her. This, her last night of freedom, is to be a memory of lust that she can take with her throughout her loveless marriage. As Aphrodite, Caroline attends a masque determined to find a man to initiate her into the intimacies of erotic love.

Taran Robertson, viscount of Blackhall, makes no secret that he despises his obligation to marry the Sassenach heiress chosen for him by his father. As a last foray before his wedding, he attends a masque. However, the spirited vixen he meets and seduces has secrets...secrets that just may reveal he's to have an improper wife.

I'll Have What She's Having!!

I loved this book so much!! Despite the fact that Caroline had me scratching my head through about half the book, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The narration was smooth with all the right vocal inflections, the Scottish accent was on point and totally brought Taran to vivid life. I'd love to listen to more books narrated by Marian Hussey.

The story itself was very well written, and seemed like it could very easily be made into a movie. I'd definitely watch it! The steamy bits were also well done and flowed well with the rest of the story. I didn't feel like things moved to quickly, and never once did I feel like I had missed something whenever Taran and Caroline hooked up.

Overall, an excellent book. I look forward to reading more works by this author.

Great time period

Would you listen to The Highlander's Improper Wife again? Why?

I would definitely listen to it more than once, the narrator has an amazing voice

What does Marian Hussey bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Absolutely loved her voice and accent

You Went There!

Narration - Marian Hussey - Really Good! British Accent with a touch of Scottish Highlander? How can you go wrong with that!

I was SO loving this book, and then...it had to go there.
You know what I'm talking about
The murder plot.
Seriously?

Why is it that everyone seems to think a romance novel has to have a murder attempt on one of the MC's?
Do you really have to risk your life to prove your love?
*sighs*

Other than that? I was eating this baby up! Thankfully the Scooby Doo danger is only a small part near the end because each and every morsel up and to that point was delicious!

Good read

Good story but could have been longer. Wrapped things up quickly. Would like to have explored more of their journey together.

So properly improper!

This book was a great listen, I was pleasantly surprised! I read some of the other reviews and was a bit worried that I wouldn't like the book very much, but I really liked it! I only wish it were longer. I think life in Scotland needed to be filled out more, but over all it was a really pleasant read.

A good one!

I really have enjoyed this tale! I found the characters entertaining, the story line extremely intriguing. There is laughter, fears, excitement, intrigue and the full range of emotions. A most entertaining experience.

NARRATOR : Excellent. I heard the book and not the narrator which is how it should be.

CREDITWORTHY : yes... providing you aren't offended by some unnecessary crude terminology used for the many sexual interludes. I've listened more than once and still want to listen all at once.

HEAT FACTOR: if you don't mind the crudity then very high!!

I TOTALLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK

This book really surprised me. I passed over it a few times because I had not heard of the author before. Then I decided to give it a try...if you don't mind plenty of "Graphic Sex Scenes" (and I don't mind at all..I love steam with my romance stories) then this book will be a good pick. The story line was totally different and the narrator was very good. I will definitely be looking for more from this author....Remember...very steamy!! :)

Erotic content, but an excellent story.

This story is a well written historical romance, but there are several erotic scenes throughout the story. I loved the story line and the characters, but wow is it steamy and extremely detailed. Narrator Marian Hussey is fantastic. She made me believe in each character with her amazing performance of voices. I do recommend this book. I just want to share that it is quite steamy, deliciously so.

Very vulgar language.

I don’t normally write reviews, however I feel like I must in order to warn readers but also to advise an otherwise promising author. The story line was promising. A typical historical romance. From the title of the story I expected it to have more of a highlanders theme and setting but this book was written portraying a character who acts more like a low lander who is perfectly content to be under English rules. A little deceiving to have Highlander in title but that I can live with. I almost returned this book because the first chapter was immediately about sex and they used so much modern day vulgar language I thought I was listening to an X rated movie. You can have steamy scenes in a historical romance without resorting to such language. The language is not befitting the time period and is a complete turnoff. Due to my utter disgust of language used in this book and the misleading title I would only give this book 2 stars if I was being generous but in my heart I would love to give it 1 star because I hated the language and I know I would never again listen to it and probably won’t buy another book from this author. That said the narrator was very good and saved me from immediately returning this book after the first scene.
