Summary

Graham Norton has been entertaining audiences and having fun with some of the world's biggest stars for nearly 20 years. He is loved across the nation for his delight in the peculiar and for his ability to find humour and a common ground in all that life brings.

The Life and Loves of a He Devil is Graham's funny and honest memoir on the theme of love. As he shows, it's really the things you love that make you who you are and so Graham tells his story from his Irish childhood to the present day, describing just what and who he loved - and sometimes lost - as a young boy, and his new loves and obsessions - big and small - as he's grown older. It's been 10 years since his last book and, being a decade older, Graham has come to realise that what makes a life interesting is less what happens to you and more what inspires and drives you, what you love....

From Dolly Parton and dogs to wine and Ireland, Graham tells of his life and loves with characteristic humour and outrageous candour.

Weak, but diverting if you're a committed fan

If you are one of Graham Norton's many fans, then you will enjoy this collection of fairly trivial anecdotes. This is one of those rare audiobooks where it's crucial that it's read by the author - if you find his voice cheers you up, then you will find the book keeps you entertained while you are doing something else.

As for me, I like his TV programme very much, but mainly because of his talent for getting his guests to relax and entertain us. The book does a less good job and his stories didn't seem much more amusing than those of anyone off the street, with the obvious exception of those involving celebrities. So a mixed bag, probably best left to Norton devotees.

If you like Graham on telly, you'll love this too.

A frank and amusing autobiography. We can share in his success but he never brags. Quite 'descriptive' about his relationships in parts.....then there's also lots in there about his lovely Mum and immediate family. And the dogs, he really loves his dogs. Loved it. But my absolute favourite is his recent fictional novel, now that is REALLY nice. Holding, it's called Holding.

I laughed, I cried, I want more!

Would you listen to The Life and Loves of a He Devil again? Why?

Yes, candid, honest and thought provoking!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Life and Loves of a He Devil?

Laugh out loud funny as expected, but the tears took me by surprise, his reading a letter from his agony column had me in bits!

Have you listened to any of Graham Norton’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No.

Any additional comments?

My only complaint is it ended too soon, hopefully there is more where this came from .

Amusing

Would you consider the audio edition of The Life and Loves of a He Devil to be better than the print version?

Because its read by Graham himself, in his amusing tone its very eay to listen to.

Really good, light hearted read

I don’t usually read celebrity autobiographies but I needed to purge a Particularly miserable fiction book with something light hearted and Graham Norton always makes me laugh on his radio 2 show so I thought I’d give this a whirl. I was not disappointed. It sounds like a cliche to say this book made me laugh and made me cry but it really did. The bit about Bailey and the condom had my crying with laughter. I loved listening to it on audiobook and I really think you get the benefit of Graham reading the words. A truly fantastic read - definitely recommend.

Laugh out loud

I loved, loved, loved this book - made me laugh out loud so many times and got me through a tortuous (drone induced) 4 hour delay at the airport

Graham Norton is a gifted storyteller!

It should come as no surprise that Graham Norton is a very gifted storyteller. But I was impressed at how open he is about telling his own story.

Disappointing

I have read two of Norton's fiction books previous to listening to this book. Both of those books were an enjoyable read.
Shallow and quite boring in places . Seems Norton's life is just alcohol and work. He did however read it quite well. This book is far from warts and all, its content is a whole lot of nothing.

Light frothy fun

This was a fun listen, bawdy at times, honest and personal. I enjoyed it but I was already a fan.

Read if you want to laugh-cry...

Any additional comments?

I knew nothing of Mr. Norton before this book but he is now one of my YouTube staples. I wish American talk shows would try his format of having all the guests out together the whole time. I enjoy seeing different celebrities interact. Maybe they just don't have Norton's degree of skill at hosting. He seems like he would throw the best parties. He's hilarious & I wish audible had his first memoir available as well.

Easy and funny listen

Very easy and funny book. Also read really well by Graham himself. The book's length is perfect. Not too long. It was a perfect and entertaining listen for my hours on the road.

Funny charming

Love Graham Norton. He's funny and charming and just the right amount of self-deprecating that isn't over the top. He doesn't take himself too seriously and our dogs couldn't be more similar in temperament. Found myself chuckling at my desk many times.

Wise and Silly

Thanks Graham Norton for time well spent listening to your book. And thanks for reminding me that life is a "come as you are affair." I am also a big fan of your show and am glad you thought the episode with Matt Damon was one of the best.

Somewhat repetitive

As much as I love his shows I found this book a tad long. He repeats stories about his dog and Christian for example. Could have been edited better.

Graham is a Delight

Entertainment flows goth from Graham like no other. Thoroughly enjoyed his conversational prose and the like of his voice. I loved it and will listen to anything else he has o. Audible. If you’re not put off by frankness and honesty, it could be very interesting and funny book. It was laugh out loud funny in several places.
