About this listen

Who will be next? When the body of a local talent show winner is discovered on the eve of headlining Kilwinnoch’s annual Civic Week celebrations, it throws the festivities into chaos, and threatens to tear the close-knit community apart.

For DCI Bone, the death is personal. Days earlier, he’d received a call from the victim, warning that she was about to be killed. He’d dismissed it as a hoax. With threats of more to come, a town on edge, and a ruthless killer evading detection with ease, Bone knows from hard-worn experience that, in a case like this, one kill is never enough.

Perfect for fans of Ian Rankin, J.D. Kirk, Val McDermid and Stuart MacBride.

I like the mains thrust of the novels and the narrator does well but I constantly want to rewrite the actual literary content - too much “he said / she said”. The narrator does his best but the author needs to listen to some other novels and realise there are other ways to indicate who has been orating so it is not such a stop start book. Despite that enjoyable but with a few tweaks could be so much better for the reader.

Good story could be better written

I loved the narration, so many twists and turns to the story.

Book 4 in the series and each one is a great listen, the narrator works so well, the dry humour, the darkness and the relationships between the characters just goes from strength to strength. A great book, a worthy 5 stars and just hoping book 5 isn't too far off .....

Excellent book

Excellent story and narration, enjoyable as previous novels but as a vegan I despise authors who feel the need to take a swipe at vegans or vegetarians. For that supposed vegan officer to suddenly eat chicken is an unnecessary jibe at those of us who prefer kindness to cruelty. I hope the next book in this series keeps this character as refusing to eat meat.

Just one irritant

I’m really enjoying this series, good plots, Steve Worsley’s narration is spot on as usual and I like the team banter.
