Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

This audiobook in The Thursday Murder Club series is read by a new narrator, Fiona Shaw.

A new mystery is afoot in the third book in the Thursday Murder Club series from record-breaking, bestselling author Richard Osman.

This audiobook includes an exclusive interview between Richard Osman and journalist and TV presenter Steph McGovern.

It is an ordinary Thursday, and things should finally be returning to normal.

Except trouble is never far away where the Thursday Murder Club are concerned. A local news legend is on the hunt for a sensational headline, and soon the gang are hot on the trail of two murders, ten years apart.

To make matters worse, a new nemesis pays Elizabeth a visit, presenting her with a deadly mission: kill or be killed...

While Elizabeth grapples with her conscience (and a gun), the gang and their unlikely new friends (including TV stars, money launderers and ex-KGB colonels) unravel a new mystery. But can they catch the culprit and save Elizabeth before the murderer strikes again?

Great Story

If you have listened the first two outings of the TMC, than the change in narration can be a tad jarring at first, but Fiona Shaw does wonderfully. In fact, after a few chapters I didn't really notice as the story gripped me.

Expect the usual twists and turns and humour. Another great outing for the gang.

Don’t expect a Leslie Manville quality read

The story line and comic elements are spot on as always from Richard Osman however, the voices of Joyce, Ibrahim, Donna and Chris are annoyingly grating to anyone who’s previously read books 1 and 2 voiced by Leslie Manville. Worth persevering but nevertheless very disappointed with the change in reader.

Great but changing.

I loved the story but I was disappointed that the narrator changed. I missed the Joyce of old (my favourite character.)It took me a long time to get used to the new more conspiratorial Joyce it conjured somehow. The story twists are still great.

Vast improvement

Much better than previous two. Improved perspective, More droll, less twee, and a little more edgy. Great new narrator, Fiona Clarke does a lovely job. Hits all the subtle humour spot on.

Thursday Murder Club

This is the 3rd murder club book and was enjoyable as the first two. Can’t wait till book number 4 is published.

Totally loved this

They’re getting better & better. Narration in the first two by Lesley Manville was excellent and Fiona Shaw, in this one, is even better.

I take Richard O’s point (in the interview at the end) that the books are not written for laughs, but there’s a lot of quietly dry humour à la Alan Bennett or Victoria Wood in them, albeit with a Kent/Sussex twist, and that’s really fun, too.

I did see a review of this in the Sunday Times that only just didn’t include the word ‘Pah!’, but which claimed the books (all of them) were patronising. Said a lot more about the reviewer than the books, I thought. Every main character is constantly very gently sent up, the way you do with people you’re fond of, and whom you respect. Sunday Times reviewer obvs didn’t get that.

I hope there will be plenty more of these; I’ve already pre ordered No. 4. And I hope Fiona Shaw has been booked…

Very entertaining

A little weird as a concept for a crime novel, but excellently though thru and perfectly delivered. Great characters and narrative drive. Pathos and crime don’t often make such good bedfellows, but this really worked for me - a laugh here, a surprise there, and almost a tear or two…
I’ll read the other titles next, this being my first one of Osman’s books I’ve tried. Beautifully narrated. Not sure how others have complained on that front…

Narration is great don't worry!

I was dismayed like everyone when I saw the wonderful Lesley Manville was not to narrate.
However I'm here to tell you the new narrator is exceedingly talented and brings great voices to the characters we love in my opinion. Yes I don't like change, but if it had to happen this has been an excellent choice!
Not finished yet, but really enjoying it, just wanted to reassure those who were worried.

Superb listening!

It took a while to get used to the new narrator but after that it was superb. This series of books keeps getting better and better. Can’t wait for the next instalment. Brilliant!
