Summary

The first in a new series from bestselling author, Ross Greenwood!

A brutal double murder on a Norfolk beach horrifies the town of Cromer. The way the victims died is chilling and so Norfolk’s Major Investigation Team task DS Ashley Knight to manage the case.

It soon becomes clear that the murders were carefully planned and the finger of suspicion points to an organised crime gang, but as the evidence mounts, a far more sinister theory emerges.

Ashley has been allocated a young but opinionated partner in Hector Fade, and sparks soon fly. Annoyingly for Ashley, Hector is no pushover and looks destined for great things. When the pair delve into the case, they struggle to understand who would inflict such suffering on their victims and hope the crime is a one off from a deranged and dangerous individual. But then another body is found.

There’s a killer on the loose who must be caught, or other victims will meet their fate by the sea.

Bestselling Ross Greenwood is back with the start of an exciting new series, perfect for fans of Mark Billingham, Ian Rankin and Peter James.

LOVE DS Knight

After devouring the DI Barton series in 4 months I was gutted to come to the end I didn’t want to leave his world full of excitement, thrills, twists turns and puzzles. Well imagine my glee when DS Knight popped up to make her debut! I raced through this one in 2days (and that was me trying to pace myself). She is another belter of a character! Very refreshing, gritty and relatable.
The book gripped me from the begin and also gave me an aversion to builders buckets. The ending was unexpected and a real twist from how I thought it was going to end.
I can not wait for the next instalment-please write quickly Mr Greenwood I’m going to be in Hunstanton in August and would love to take DS Knight and her next case along with me.

I have a new favourite detective

I love this book. The characters are real, identifiable, I care about them. Excellent work again Ross Greenwood . I didn't want it to end. David Thorpe's narration is brilliant as always.

Intriguing story

I real whodunnit. Love a good murder mystery and this has elements of almost cold case mixed with current time events.
Enjoyed it thoroughly

A Comfortable Listen

Knowing Cromer added to the enjoyment of this book and the descriptions of the town and environs are evocative and well drawn. The characters are generally well drawn too and believable. The plot requires a willing suspension of disbelief but is appropriate for the genre. The narration is very good with voices and accents seamlessly adopted but why on earth didn’t the production team ask the narrator to stop the unnatural, annoyingly long pauses between sentences? This was the one area that very nearly made me give up on the book early on.

Greenwood keeps the huts coming

I was a little apprehensive following the DI Barton stories (Killer series) but there was no need to be the stories are excellently written, character as relatable and engaging as ever. The real star of the show is David Thorpe's narration which is soooooo good as always. the nuance he puts on each and every accent is ok outstanding.
Looking forward to starting the next installment immediately

Too much going on

This was my first listen by this author. All the characters made it really confusing. And so was the plot. Was not satisfied by the end.

I know Cromer fairly well so the setting made the book interesting to me

The errors of the names of local places. I found some elements of the plot implausible

The accents !

I loved the story but really the accents ruined it. I’m a Norfolk broad but I do t sound like that - a pathologist who sounds like a tractor driver ? That would never happen.
And the accent of the main character was not consistent.
Story good but drop the terrible accents.
