Story
Ellen was just trying to help a stranger. That was how it started: giving a few minutes respite to a flustered young mother sitting opposite her on the train. A few minutes holding her baby while the mother makes an urgent call. The weight of the child in her arms making Ellen's heart ache for what she can never have. Five minutes pass. Ten. The train pulls into a station and Ellen is stunned to see the mother hurrying away down the platform without looking back.

The white-washed Italian villa is perfect. I thought it might feel odd, living in a stranger’s house for the summer, but as my husband and children swim in the infinity pool, I start to relax. And then, in the back of a wardrobe, I find something that shatters everything.... Sparkling green eyes, square jaw, lopsided smile. A young man with his arm around a beautiful woman. The picture is old and faded, but I’d recognize him anywhere. The man is my husband.

It starts with a lie. The kind we've all told - to a former acquaintance we can't quite place but still, for some reason, feel the need to impress. The story of our life, embellished for the benefit of the happily married lawyer with the kids and the lovely home. And the next thing you know, you're having dinner at their house and accepting an invitation to join them on holiday - swept up in their perfect life, the kind you always dreamed of.... Which turns out to be less than perfect.

Brilliant
Loved this and brilliantly narrated. having enjoyed Behind Closed Doors I was keen to listen to this, although I guessed from the start what was going on, it didn't actually spoil my enjoyment of the book and as the last few chapters arrived I was spellbound. Another great psychological thriller, well crafted.

Exciting Read
This was a thrilling book. I guessed the twist from the start but this did not spoil it for me. I just kept on hoping Cass would see what was happening. The narrator was excellent and really drew the listener in. The final reveal via text message was very clever although a bit tedious to hear, it probably reads better. Overall one go my favourite listens to date.

It Got Better
If i could have given half stars i would have given 3.5.
At times the story was a bit repetitive and I began to think of my next listen. But it has to be really bad for me to give up on a book and I'm glad I continued because it did get better and i enjoyed the ending.
This is the second book I've listened to by B A Paris now and I found I needed to have to stretch the imagination a lot to believe the story. But no matter, I suppose we don't have to be too pedantic sometimes we can just go with it and enjoy.

Where does The Breakdown rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
One of the best books I've listened to - couldn't wait to continue through the story. Excellent plot that kept me on the edge of my seat guessing until the end.
What does Georgia Maguire bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Slow at times
At first I wad very excited to listen to this because I had loved 'Behind Closed Doors' by the same author. I can't say I was entirely disappointed as the story was ok and the idea was intriguing. I just feel like it took a long time to get where it was going which I'm sure the author meant to be a slow burn build to an aha moment, that I wasn't all that surprised by.

Psychological thriller more interesting in the second part
The book reminded me the first one of B.A.Paris (Behind the closed doors) which I liked more, this one is a bit predictable if you listen them in a row. Reminds sometimes "The girl in the train" as well. But as good psychological thrillers are not many - I recommend it to readers who like this genre.
