Story

Since then she's been forgetting everything: where she left the car, if she took her pills, the alarm code, why she ordered a pram when she doesn't have a baby.... What she can't forget is the woman she might have saved, the terrible nagging guilt, the silent calls she's receiving and the feeling that someone's watching her.

Summary
In this dark, psychological thriller, Georgia Maguire pushes listeners to explore the furthest limits of their moral codes. If the circumstances were bleak enough, what would you be willing to do to protect the ones you love?
The perfect marriage? Or the perfect lie?
Jack has looks and wealth; Grace has charm and elegance. You might not want to like them, but you do. You'd like to get to know Grace better. But it's difficult, because Jack and Grace are never apart.
Some might call this true love. Others might ask why Grace never answers the phone. And why there are bars on one of the bedroom windows.
Sometimes the perfect marriage is the perfect lie.

WOW !!!!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would definitely recommend this book ! It was gripping from the start and I couldn't put it down ! I finally finished it at 2 in the morning and then wished I'd taken it slower ! I cant wait for her next book
What other book might you compare Behind Closed Doors to, and why?
It brought to mind Apple tree yard , where being brought down so low brought out the determination for revenge
What does Georgia Maguire bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
The feeling of complete and utter helplessness and being totally at someone else's mercy
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Millie made me laugh at times , what a clever girl ! At times it made me fearful for Grace I wanted to shout' don't he'll punish you !
Any additional comments?
It would make a great movie

Weak
Started off promising but turned out to be very disappointing. Whole story lacked substance making it very unbelievable & a bit silly.
Grace came across as weak & stupid rather than someone who was abused & controlled. All of the characters lacked depth.
It was poorly written & I don't think the narrator helped. I listened until the end as wanted to know what would happen so I guess that is one positive however the ending was disappointing too. In fact the whole thing was just silly rather than a thriller!

Ridiculous plot!
I kept going with this in the hope that there would be a twist at the end. It was such an unbelievable plot, that it was actually becoming quite frustrating to listen to. It was well read & parts of the description were good, but overall not worth listening to.

Dire, Unconvincing Melodrama
If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?
People who inhabit an alternative reality where email and mobile telephones don't exist.
Would you ever listen to anything by B A Paris again?
Possibly. The writing was not terrible, but the plot was wholly implausible.
How could the performance have been better?
Better material would have helped. The narrator is playing an implausibly helpless woman - and that can't be easy.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Eye-rolling incredulity

Avoid
Poorly written, too many holes in the plot and since when do people with downs syndrome get put into mental asylums? Offensive. Also the main character is pathetic, she's either a confident woman who travels the world on behalf of Harrods alone or she's a quiet under the thumb victim, make your mind up

Drags on....and on....and on!
What disappointed you about Behind Closed Doors?
An unlikely scenario is proposed in the early stages of the book which is never adequately explained. Instead the reader is treated to the same plot devices over and over like a stuck record. There is a tiny twist at the end but it is such a tiny twist that many readers, their eyes heavy with sleep, their brains exhausted by repetition, may miss it altogether.
What could B A Paris have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I suspect that the writer enjoys Victorian novels as the language used seems to belong to a melodrama of that era. But the author needs to study what actually happens in 21st century Britain. People are no longer dumped in "asylums" because their family doesn't want them!
What didn’t you like about Georgia Maguire’s performance?
It was fine - she did what she could with the material.
What character would you cut from Behind Closed Doors?
None

I loved the story from the beginning. Was a bit slow to kick off but I think I was distracted.
The narrator was a perfect choice for the British tone and setting. Millie’s voice got to me a bit after a while as she sounded more like a Chinese foreigner than a teenager with a disability. More full sent
