Well I love the Ben hope stories and this is no disappointment but WHO ON EARTH auditioned Jack Hawkins as the narrator. His performance on the previous book was barely tolerable but this is even worse!!! He has, completely randomly, given one of the key characters “Brooke” an American accent!? She isnt American and wasn’t American in the preceding book that he also performed (really badly did I mention that?) . His speech is unclear and his “voices” terrible and too similar. Long conversations between two characters get confusing and occasionally require replaying to follow who is actually speaking. If he reads another book I will quit the series. It’s a shame as the stories are great.

Oh dear Jack

What did you like best about this story?

It's got plenty of action, adventure and myriad destinations and backdrops. The characters are well drawn out (not only the protagonist but those around him, and the female characters are believable too). Dialogue is noticeable for lacking any jarring clunkiness. It's a good old yarn that doesn't leave the reader feeling patronised.

What about Jack Hawkins’s performance did you like?

Narration is good. Hawkins suits the main character while giving the supporting cast their respective due.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yep, though I actually did it in two

Any additional comments?

I'd say if you like the urban adventure and brawls of a Simon Kernick and enjoyed The Rule of Four you've come to the right place.

If Desmond Bagley was writing today I reckon he'd be creating something like this.

A page turner with brains

Latest instalment was better then the last book but when did Brooke develop an American accent. That was distracting.
Looking forward to reading the next one

The accent of Brook

Love it and can't wait to go on to next book . Glad it's not the same narrator as this one is awful almost spoilt book .
