Summary

Has Ben Hope finally met his match?

The master best seller returns with the explosive follow-up to Star of Africa. The second in a two-part series.

Held hostage by a despicable tyrant in the heart of Africa - within the lawless and unforgiving Congo - it's not looking good for Ben Hope. Even worse, someone very important to him has fallen into the enemy's hands, and they're using this against Ben as part of a depraved plan to bend him to their will.

The Devil's Kingdom

The follow on book from The Star of Africa sees Jude separated from the rest of the survivors, and Ben installed as the General's military advisor. The only thing on Ben's mind is to find and rescue Jude, however his attempts are constantly thwarted by General Hossa.
An action packed, compelling conclusion to the two part series.
Well narrated by Colin Mace.

Brilliant book

I could not put it down. I was totally immersed in the storyline and will go into the next book in the series.

gruesome

gruesome story, pretty horrific but a good story all the same but definitely not for the weakhearted, this is part two so make sure you listen to the previous book.

Very bloody and very violent.

Lots of disappointment in this book, after listening to all of the Ben Hope books back to back. It was far too graphic in the violent scenes, and I found myself forwarding past these awful, descriptive scenes. it was as if the author has a very sadistic streak himself and has expressed it in this and the last book. Also, this book didn't show the normal, assertive, Ben Hope who I'm sure, going by previous books, wouldn't have let his, weak, spineless son, dictate to him what should have been done with the despotic villain. Consequently, many lives are lost when the old Ben Hope would have foreseen what would happen.
He would also have known what would have happened after the meeting with the chief of police towards the end of the book. To this end I found it very frustrating and disappointing.

Unnerving but gripping.

Gruesome & unnecessarily gory in places. NOT for kids. I know these horrors go on in Africa but I don't think it's needed in entertainment.

Epic story

One of the best in the Ben Hope series. The story really takes you there. Fantastic performance by narrator.

Glad that's over!

This was a hard read! I am a big fan of the Ben hope books and have read them all to date but the last 2 were tough. I had to switch to audiobook because of the content being so dark. I might take a break from them for a bit.

A really great listen!

Before starting this book I did listen to part I, I would recommend it & read some reviews.
The books are full of great action, sympathetic & gruesome characters in equal parts, a full grasp of Africa.... politically etc plus many twists & turns.
I enjoyed both books, particularly this one & certainly recommend to anyone who thrives on action & adventure..... wonderful!
