They say your memory can't be trusted. They say your story doesn't check out. They say you were never blindfolded...starved...or imprisoned in a filthy shed like an animal. But you know it happened. Passable read

Summary
Following her best-selling debut Into the Darkest Corner - an Amazon Best Book of 2011 and winner of Rising Stars - Elizabeth Haynes' second novel is a taut and gripping murder mystery introducing a compelling new heroine, Genevieve - office worker by day and pole dancer by night - who finds herself implicated in a mob underworld of murder, corruption, and betrayal.
Genevieve has finally escaped the stressful demands of her sales job and achieved her dream: to leave London behind and start a new life aboard a houseboat in Kent. But on the night of her boat-warming party the dream is shattered when a body washes up beside the boat, and she recognises the victim. As the sanctuary of the boatyard is threatened, and her life is increasingly at risk, the story of how Genevieve came to be so out of her depth unfolds, and she learns the real cost of mixing business with pleasure.

Unexpected
I was disappointed with this for one reason; the synopsis suggested a compelling murder mystery but what I actually got was a variation on the classic "chick-lit".
If you like chick-lit, you'll love this book. It has all the ingredients of this genre, and once I realised what I'd got and decided to listen to it for what it was, I did quite enjoy it. The narrator is perfect for this kind of book, but wouldn't sit right with a darker murder mystery.
I have rated it with only three stars because it is not what the synopsis suggests, but as a novel of its type it is an entertaining listen.

Pole Dancing, Barge Boats and Gangsters
After reading Elizabeth Haynes debut novel 'Into the Darkest Corner' I was looking forward to trying her other books - I had an audible credit so I purchased 'Revenge of the Tide' on audio.
Firstly the narration is very good, Karen Cass does an excellent job.
Secondly I have to disagree with other reviewers this wasn't chick lit, it just wasn't a detective thriller. Okay so it is nowhere near as pacey or heart pounding as Haynes first novel but it's still good. It took me a few chapters to get into it but then I was hooked and intrigued.
If you are looking for a typical Cop thriller novel then this might not be for you, but I think fans of Claire Seeber would like this.
To sum up, not as great as the debut novel, but still a really good and refreshing thriller style story.
I'll definitely purchase Elizabeth Haynes next novel 'Human Remains'

A huge disappointment
I gave Elizabeth Haynes debut 'Into the darkest corner' 5 stars (worthy of 6 if that were possible !) so had high hopes for this her second. However, this was hugely disappointing. Unbelievable, slow, repetitive and hard to believe it was by the same author. I lost interest around half way through but kept going as I so wanted it to get better. 3 stars as I hope there is better to come from the author

loathed main character
I have never disliked a main character as much as Genavive and was relieved when the book finally ended. She was a petulant, arrogant and extremely annoying, I found the story line very weak as well which was disappointing as I really enjoyed into the darkest corner.

A good light thriller
Any additional comments?
Not nearly as powerful as Into The Darkest Corner or Human Remains, this is a good light thriller. I enjoyed the story and the narration was very good. There were times when the main protagonist made me internally tut and throw my eyes to the heavens. She can be a bit airheaded at times, but then she is probably in her early 20s and we have to allow for characters being dim at times.

Perfect holiday listen
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes! I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Easy listening. I also enjoyed the story unfolding chapter by chapter and that there were not too many characters to keep track of. For me this audio book made for great holiday listening - no brainer stuff.
Karen Cass has become my favourite narrator. She differentiates the characters really well with changes in tone and accent, which makes listening very smooth.
Which character – as performed by Karen Cass – was your favorite?
The main character, Genevieve, is my favourite. I think she also did really well with Dylan - to convey his frostiness.
