Summary
Winner of the 2018 Audie Award for Best Business/Personal Development Audiobook
"A transfixing book on how to sustain peak performance and avoid burnout" ― Adam Grant, New York Times bestselling author of Option B, Originals, and Give and Take
"An essential playbook for success, happiness, and getting the most out of ourselves." ― Arianna Huffington, author of Thrive and The Sleep Revolution
"I doubt anyone can read Peak Performance without itching to apply something to their own lives." ― David Epstein, New York Times bestselling author of The Sports Gene
A few common principles drive performance, regardless of the field or the task at hand. Whether someone is trying to qualify for the Olympics, break ground in mathematical theory or craft an artistic masterpiece, many of the practices that lead to great success are the same. In Peak Performance, Brad Stulberg, a former McKinsey and Company consultant and journalist who covers health and the science of human performance, and Steve Magness, a performance scientist and coach of Olympic athletes, team up to demystify these practices and demonstrate how everyone can achieve their best.
The first book of its kind, Peak Performance combines the inspiring stories of top performers across a range of capabilities - from athletic, to intellectual, to artistic - with the latest scientific insights into the cognitive and neurochemical factors that drive performance in all domains. In doing so, Peak Performance uncovers new linkages that hold promise as performance enhancers but have been overlooked in our traditionally-siloed ways of thinking. The result is a life-changing book in which listeners will learn how to enhance their performance via myriad ways including: optimally alternating between periods of intense work and rest; developing and harnessing the power of a self-transcending purpose; and priming the body and mind for enhanced productivity.
In revealing the science of great performance and the stories of great performers across a wide range of capabilities, Peak Performance uncovers the secrets of success, and coaches listeners on how to use them. If you want to take your game to the next level, whatever "your game" may be, Peak Performance will teach you how.

What's the fuss about
Bought this on the strength of other reviews. Its not bad but in truth there is nothing new or dynamic in it.-Be mindful, get sleep etc etc. Also if I get another book in this genre that quotes Roger Bannister then I'll scream.Left me disappointed

Read it if you are about to burnout, just starting or looking for performance gains
Read the conclusions for a summary. Here is mine:
1. Growth = stress + rest
Develop a growth mindset- realise that stress is the fuel for growth and remind yourself of that when it gets hard (self talk is more important than practise at the end)
Focus: do one thing at a time, compartmentalise and execute
Create an environment that makes it automatic for you to execute
Just do it: frequency is more important than quantity
If you are on the brink of burnout, coach or give advice within your expertise without expecting anything in return (give back)
Transcend yourself to self-actualise
Prioritise your core values and make daily reminders of your purpose (why you are doing what you do)

Great.
I really enjoyed this book as it seemed to pull together information taken from other audio books I have already listened to, such as Peak by Anders Ericsson, and gives you a great base plan to start on the journey to peak performance. Recommended.

Great book to read
Amazing techniques to use in our everyday life. Taught me why sleep and rest could also lead to growth. A great book to read for someone who feels guilty to take a break as they're not utilizing their time, a problem I too have (or had). So far, it has been beneficial for me. Hope it'll be so for you as well.

Don’t do reviews, but this is the best book on the subject!
Having read countless books about motivation, habit forming, etc. this is the best book out there! While there are amazing books that focus on one subject like habit forming or importance of say, just showing up to do the work, this book covers it all, from start to finish all you need to be successful in any field, I highly recommend it, no nonsense, straight to the point, easy to follow and soak in!

Pseudo science diatribe dribble
The co-authors of this book must be very pleased with themselves. They have written a best seller about the "new science of success" the secret of which can basically be summed up as "stress + rest = growth". And that's about it. This concept of stretched in each and every direction imaginable and uses real life examples from obscure US track and field athletes and, bizarrely, Taylor Swift's drummer. Plenty of eye rolling moments throughout this book. I am sure there are better examples in the huge canon of inspirational pseudo science self help books on the market.

Profoundly true and science-based wisdom
The title of this book might make you think it’s yet another regular self-help book. On the contrary, it is a profound and science backed compilation/systematization of sustainable performance wisdom. Loved the book. Life changing. Thanks Mr Stulberg and Mr Magness.

Heard most of it before but
It was still nice to hear a different take on the topics discussed and the presentation was good.
