Story
Show me an amateur conjurer, and I'll stop him before he gets himself killed. That's the idea, anyway. But New York City isn't what it used to be, and I don't mean the recent crash. Amateur casters are calling up creatures they shouldn't be able to. And there's been a murder at the city's most hallowed cathedral, a message in blood on the victim's back the NYPD wants me to interpret, like yesterday.

Savid DelaCrotia is the third born son of one of the Kingdom of Montshire’s oldest and most respected High families. Cast aside by his father at an early age, it’s up to him to make his own way and create his own honor. With just his horse, his weapons, the clothes on his back and in his pack, and the education that his family provided, he’ll have to go it alone. Luckily, he already has a pretty good idea of what he’s good at - fighting, and woodcraft - not to mention finding hidden and lost items.

Before the now-infamous Count Dracula ever tasted his first drop of blood, Sorin Ambrogio owned the night. Humanity fearfully called him the Devil. Cursed by the gods, Sorin spent centuries bathing Europe in oceans of blood with his best friends, Lucian and Nero, the world’s first Werewolf and Warlock - an unholy trinity if there ever was one. Dreadful Irish accents
I love this series. Unfortunately this book is oversupplied with that dubious Irish accent that only Americans seem to use. At one stage the 19 year old Galway girl's accent seem to drift towards England and London. Kind of ruined for me. Since I'm actually Irish that crappy pseudo accent always annoys me.

What accent is that meant to be?
having read the books in the Demon Accord series, I was wary of how the narrator would do. previous books in the series were OK but boy did he come a cropper in this one! Some of the characters are Irish but the accent - at points - flips over to pure Essex (for those not familiar with UK regional 'dialects', think of it as a poor man's cockney). When the narrator did this for the first time, I choked on my coffee it was that jarring.

Okay once it gets going but not half as smoothly written or read as the rest of the series
It takes a lot of work to get going. Plus its a bit of a surprise that it isn't an obvious follow on. Could have used a paragraph to orientate it within the series for the reader. I looked up to confirm it really was part of the series before persevering. I was thinking, 'Where are the usual characters?' You do reach them eventually. Feels like the start of a teen off shoot series. On a side, I hated the narrator's Irish accents, painful, and as for the young Irish girl who slips from Irish to cockney on a whim - made me shudder.
But it was okay.

Good story, but patronising towards the Irish
The story is pretty good, but the Irish characters speak in a dialogue last seen in 1970s clichéd American Irish cop dramas. Only falling a little short of shouting "Begorrah!".
The narrator also has some issues with the Irish accent, ranging from a phoney American Oirish accent to something so god awful it verges on Dick Van Dykes fake Cockney accent in Mary Poppins. Cockney is a London East End dialect, so has no relation to Irish.
Overall, these things work to distract from what is otherwise an enjoyable enough introduction to some new characters.

Cockney isn't Irish!
Why did the accent for the 4 Irish sisters keep drifting into an awful Dick Van Dyke mockney accent? I don't think you can be more offensive to Irish people if you tried.

Can be skipped, side-storyish
So it isn't really about the main characters from the story but rather a background story of the boy and the girl in the last books prison. It's funny and does flesh out the Witches part of the world with gather dark backgrounds.

Appalling accents
Like other reviewers, I love this series but it was very difficult to tolerate the (allegedly) Irish accents in this one. I’m not a huge fan of American narrators, especially female ones, but have found J P Cronin easy on the ear…until now. The Irish characters sound like a combination of Irish, English, American and Scottish. Aunt Aisling reminds me of Mrs Doubtfire and I didn’t like his/her Scottish approximations either! The story is good and introduces new characters for future stories. On to the next one!

If You Skip This - You Will Regret Your Decision
Usually when an author completely changes protagonists in the middle of a series the decision is a poor choice. Not so with this book. It's a nice change of pace.
This book explores the lives of the 2 kids that were locked in those cells at the end of book 5. There's a bit of crossover in the middle of the book when Chris comes to save his goddaughter.
The writing and story are solid as always. In fact, I'd say this book is on par with the first couple of books of the series.

Back to High School!
I've enjoyed the previous books in this series. This one, however, was not the same at all. It follows High School students in their life, peer struggles, with some supernatural thrown in. There was, eventually, a little interaction with characters in the other books. I struggled to get through it even though I could see where it would intersect with the story line, but, I was very disappointed overall. I hope the next book goes back to the main plot and people.

Just too much to overlook - had to turn it off
Even with the understanding that the audience for this is probably "tween", there are only so many times a reader/listener can realistically be expected to ignore an obvious plot hole or character personality-lapse just for the (lazy) convenience of pushing a plot beyond a natural point of termination. The whole thing started to feel so contrived. It is rare that I turn off a book (especially this far into a series).
Adding to that is the bad performance by James Patrick Cronin (in the series). He ends many dialogue lines (especially for the protagonist) with an octave increase as if it were a question - making the characters seem either dumb or confused. There is a big difference in a scene where a character is supposed to be coming across as a force-to-be-reckoned-with making a statement like, " I am," versus how it is performed like, "I am?". Because this is an audio book it adds to the confusion when the author ends a sentence with "..he said", but it is performed as a question - leaving me wondering if the dialogue ended with a period or a question mark (and should, therefore, have been "..he asked"), or if it is the performance that got it wrong.

What would have made Executable better?
I may be in a minority but I do not like shifts in focus like this. I skipped 4.5 for this very reason. I enjoy how Chris handles each situation and his relationship with Tanya.
Any additional comments?
If you want to learn more about supporting characters or periphery then read 4.5 and this book. If you just want to continue Chris's story move on to the next book.

Great so far
I was a little confused with this book, I don't know why I thought this was about Chris for at least a quarter of the way through the book. It was entertaining but it wasn't matching up with what I knew.
I should have read some of the comments before starting this book so I could put it into context. So yah! This is about Declan and Caeco which were the two kids Chris saved in the last book during Toni's rescue.
You could see a LOT of parallels between Declan and Chris, both were trying to hide themselves stay out of the spot light, both extremely powerful. Not on Chris's level yet but still lots of potential.
Very entertaining.

I enjoyed this story, but...
I prefer a straight story, so this segue into a different story was not appreciated, at the time. However, as I got into the story, I enjoyed it, especially the ending.
Not sure why the author decided to go this way, maybe he lost some ideas. One thing I didn't care for was the author starting to place more emphasis on sex. Adds nothing to the story.
The narrator wasn't as good changing his voice between Chris and Declan!

Gets better...
The beginning of the book is slow and, sorry to say, I found it irritating. I never really enjoy high school life in books. I honestly would rate that part 3 stars at most. I had a hard time getting through it. Fortunately from the middle on it is much better. I'd rate it 4 stars from that point. I wrestled with what to rate it and I guess. It is enough improved at the end to push it up to 4 stars overall. I liked it as an addition to the series. Declan is a good character, and some of the other teens also were worth reading. Others not so much. I was very glad when Chris and Tanya returned. Tony was a breath of fresh air, and Awasos! So, wrapping it up, definitely recommend reading this. In fact the series up to this point is recommended.

Liked to have heard more about Chris and Tanya. Decklan is sweet but I'm not looking for sweet I wanna know what the h*** is going on between Tanya and Chris and how they met before they met this time period

Not as good as previous books.
Not as engaging and interesting as previous books, and characters. Would have preferred a continuation of Chris' story. Declan was the only character noteworthy imo and it took the entire book to just get a glimpse of his powers.
