Summary

A Song of Shadows sees Parker revisit the crimes of a WWII concentration camp while he struggles to regain his health after the near-fatal shooting in The Wolf in Winter.

Grievously wounded private detective Charlie Parker investigates a case that has its origins in a Nazi concentration camp during the Second World War.

Broken but undeterred, private detective Charlie Parker faces the darkest of dark forces in a case with its roots in the second world war and a concentration camp unlike any other....

Recovering from a near-fatal shooting and tormented by memories of a world beyond this one, Parker has retreated to the small Maine town of Boreas to recover. There he befriends a widow named Ruth Winter and her young daughter, Amanda. But Ruth has her secrets. She is hiding from the past, and the forces that threaten her have their origins in the Second World War, in a town called Lubko and a concentration camp unlike any other. Old atrocities are about to be unearthed, and old sinners will kill to hide their sins.

Now Parker is about to risk his life to defend a woman he barely knows, one who fears him almost as much as she fears those who are coming for her. His enemies believe him to be vulnerable. Fearful. Solitary.

But they are wrong. Parker is far from afraid and far from alone. For something is emerging from the shadows....

I CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF CHARLIE PARKER AND FRIENDS

What did you like most about A Song of Shadows?

I LIKED THE WAY IN WHICH IT PICKED UP FROM BOOK 12 - A STORY IN ITSELF, BUT ALSO HOW THE OVERALL STORY IS BEGINNING TO UNFOLD. JEFF HARDING READS IT WONDERFULLY - A GREAT COMBINATION.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Song of Shadows?

THE INTERACTION BETWEEN PARKER AND HIS DEAD AND LIVING DAUGHTERS

Have you listened to any of Jeff Harding’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Charlie Parker at his best

Enjoyed this book a lot! Did wonder how the next one would be after the events at the end of the previous book. It's been set up to run a lot longer now, so can't wait for the next one!

Loved it.

Yet another excellent Charlie Parker novel.
I love the development of Sam's character in this episode and can't wait to hear the next installment - which I have already purchased.

Jeff Harding brings the characters and story to life.

What a team!!

Please don't think about retiring Charlie Parker any time soon.

A some what different Parker novel

This books marks the beginning of the next phase of Charlie Parker's journey into the supernatural. I enjoyed it although the tone was more somber than usual. I think you would have had to have read the other books to follow what's going on.I like that both his daughters are playing an important role in this novel. I would recommend but only to fans of the earlier novels.

Opens up a whole new chapter of works

Whilst the story in isolation is a tad predictable and slews from the normal Charlie Parker plot it sets the scene for two parallel stories to unfold
Both the hunt for the names on the list and who or what is CP's daughter?

Vintage Charlie Parker

Another great thriller from John Connolly, plus the continuing mystery of Charlie himself; what drives & protects him? & where will it all end? Spookier than ever & hugely enjoyable.
