Story
A storm is brewing and so is a budding romance. I've been told I'm a force to be reckoned with. That I blow onto the scene like a tornado. I've stopped caring if that's a compliment or a dig. Now I just wear it like a badge of honor. So when life threw me a curveball and I ended up going from a cushy job in New York City to the tiny Southern town of Grimm Cove, I thought I was ready for anything. Ha! Not quite. You see, Grimm Cove is teeming with supernaturals. And since I've known they exist for a hot minute, I'm still in a state of total shock.

Story
Robin Brannon was a normal wife, mom, and antique shop owner until a brush with death turned her day-to-day life upside down. Now, she and her two best friends are seeing things that belong in a fantasy novel. Ghosts. Visions. Omens of doom. Nothing that belongs in the peaceful mountain town they call home. Added to that, Robin's marriage is on the rocks, her grandmother's health is failing, her mother is driving away the customers at her shop, her teenage daughter refuses to get her driver's license, and her left knee aches every darn morning.

Shadowvale isn’t typical small-town America. The sun never shines, the gates decide who enters, magic abounds, and every resident bears some kind of curse. No one knows this as well as raven shifter Deacon Evermore, who, like everyone in his family, has a curse. While his position as Shadowvale’s peacekeeper lets him use that curse for good, he’d rather live anywhere else. He stays for his family but doubts he can last much longer.

One day, I’m married, living in Seattle, and magic isn’t real. The next, I’m divorced and living in the guest room of my ex’s hotter-than-sin cousin’s place in Savannah and talking to an animated skeleton named Robert. I have to admit, Robert isn’t my worst date. At 41, I didn’t think I’d be starting over. But I’ll be damned if my ex thinks I’m down and out because he pulled a fast one on me. When a job comes my way that offers me a chance to use my childhood training in the shadow world, I take it.

Mav disappeared before I could ever tell him about the child I carried. I’ve had years to get over him, and I’ve tried. But the second I see him again my heart lurches and it’s like all that time evaporates. I still burn for him, even though I know it’s a bad idea. I try to remind myself about the bad things: his possessiveness, his quick temper...but he’s different now. More mature. Protective. Settled. And hiding something. Something bigger than the child we share.

I am ready to tackle my do-over; my chance to become the me I've always dreamed of. Starting with moving into my late grandma's cottage and adopting a new kitten. "Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of 20 years packs up and heads for greener pastures, and my son heads away to college, that's exactly what my midlife becomes. A do-over. This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at 40 I'm ready to carve my own path. Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills.

I’m one placement away from becoming a fully fledged London detective. It’s bad enough that my last assignment before I qualify is with Supernatural Squad. But that’s nothing compared to what happens next. Brutally murdered by an unknown assailant, I wake up 12 hours later in the morgue - and I’m very much alive. I don’t know how or why it happened. I don’t know who killed me. All I know is that they might try again.

The day after my 43rd birthday, my husband announced he was trading me in - his words, not mine. The news was unwelcome at the time, but honestly? I needed a good goosing to get up and find my way to the door. So I was freed from the giant manual of expectations authored by my ex. That was the good news. The flip side was less happy. Due to living in a state not friendly to discarded wives, I was also relieved of the financial "security" I'd spent a lifetime accruing.

Summary
When it rains, it pours...and sometimes love finds you even when you can’t find yourself.
Fate has given me a second chance at the happiness I once knew in the odd Southern town of Grimm Cove. But only if I can come to terms with some rather eye-opening revelations. Supernaturals are a real thing. I'm a witch. My high school sweetheart, who happens to be the Chief of Police in Grimm Cove, is my fated mate and a wolf-shifter. Ghosts exist and can be very nosy and meddlesome. Someone is murdering witches left and right. And last but not least, my ex-husband's barely legal arm candy is taking fatal attraction to new levels of Hell.
I'm no shrinking violet, and with the help of my best friends, I'm going to live life on my terms - come Hell, high water, or magikal mishaps.

Cloudy with a Chance of witchcraft
I received this audio book from the author’s Facebook page as part of a competition. This is the first Mandy M Roth book I have listened to. I also switched between the kindle unlimited digital book as well. I was very impressed. I loved the narration and fell in love with Poppy, Dana, Marcy and the characters in Grimm Cove. A little predictable at times but I didn’t mind that. It was a fun listen/read and I’ll be downloading book 2 next!

Cloudy With a Chance of Witchcraft by Mandy M Roth
Absolutely brilliant, I so want to get the next in series! The narrator was very good, she didn't grate on the ears as can happen. One minor blemish was gaps in the narrative, usually at the end of chapters and a hissing noise that could of been my mobile speaker(not happened before) or a recording issue, didn't diminish my enjoyment of the book.
This is a new series by Mandy M Roth, who has written series I read previously, and listened to Audible editions of her books, I have to say I'm a fan of her style of writing. Her female characters are amazing, full of snark and sass. I was fortunate that I was alone whilst listening as there were several passages that I full on belly laughed at!
I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it to others, a great escape from reality

Allyson Voller's narration is awful!
This kind of story is right up my street, however Allyson Voller's narration is so stilted as to be nearly unbearable. There are pauses between bits of dialogue and the bit that tells you who said it. The sample for the book isn't bad at all in this regard so I didn't realise this was a problem until I started reading.
Character voices are distinguishable and mostly consistant. if it were't for those unnatural pauses I'd be able to enjoy this more, but bad narration can break the flow of a story and this lady really tries to do that.
I'm 4 hours or so in and I now have to work out whether I can put up with her for the rest of the book, or return it. I hope to goodness she improves with time, because there are more books in the series and I'm curious to see what else happens to everyone.

Romance excitement and comedy
The performance makes it easy to distinguish between the different characters and has just the right amount of emotion during the storytelling. The end of each chapter makes you want to keep listening to see what happens next. The characters have traits that remind me of people I have know which makes it easier to identify with them and develop an attachment with them.

Kinda sexist and ridiculous
The main female characters are fine, but the men are ridiculous. Not seeing someone for 20 years and then acting like they belong to you is insane and borderline abusive. I understand it’s a fantasy story but we shouldn’t normalize behavior like that. The amount of unhealthy jealousy from the men in this story sucks, it’s not cute or attractive at all. Abusive behavior isn’t romantic, even in fictional stores.

a little witchcraft to go
i have read the 2 books and finally got a chance to listen to the 1st. i love the story. the narrator did a great job on poppy and her friends (female characters) however, her voice was not meant to be a narrator of adult male characters. it kept making feel like the supposed 40+/- year old hunky males where all underaged boys with high pitched voices. it was almost to jarring to listen to. i hope the 2nd book has a guy for the male characters.
that being said.. the story is about an almost 40yr recently divorced mom of 2. Poppy along with her 2 college bffs Danna and Marcy moving to start their lives over in Grimm Cove. throw in an old flame and friend, a succubi**h, and you have yourself a supernatural mystery.

Her life is CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF WITCHCRAFT!
Poppy Davies is about to have the worst meal of her life. Her husband just asked for a divorce. A new life in the small South Carolina town of Grimm Cove where her grandparents lived is about to become her new home. Brett Kasper let his mate go a long time ago. She married another but he’s kept an eye on her and her twins. When Poppy moves to Grimm Cove permanently. She’ll find out just how special her grandparent’s hometown is when strange things start to happen. Brett is determined to get back the woman he’s never stopped loving all these years. They’ll face danger and just fall in love all over again. Poppy will learn that Grimm Cove isn’t the only special thing in her life. Poppy and Brett and her best friends will have to work together to make sure that another witch doesn’t die as she figures out its going to be Cloudy With a Chance of Witchcraft.
Mandy M Roth begins her newest series around a small town called Grimm Cove, South Carolina. This town isn’t what it seems to be. Told from the characters perspective, who’s lives are turned upside down by what they learn and coming into contact with a long-lost love. A woman starting over and a man who can’t forget about the woman he let get away. They’ll deal with ghosts, shifters, and an enemy she didn’t know she had. She and her best friends move to Grimm Cove brings them the knowledge they didn’t know about themselves and their new home. Written with love, passion danger and unique characters deal with all that happens with sarcasm and humor that will want you to continue the whole series. Cloudy With a Chance of Witchcraft will have you anxiously waiting for all the other stories in the Grimm Cove series. If you’ve not read Mandy M Roth before this is a great way to start and if you’re a long-time fan it’s a must read or listen and to be added to your collection. Can’t wait to for the next in the series to be released in audio book form. I’m a recent convert to this author over the last few years and will continue being a fan for a very long time to come.

Just so so
Narrator , and everything else is jus al right not great but not terrible either. Nice idea. I don’t agree with the reviewer who felt the age comments were too much. They were appropriate for the story line. But I wasn’t wild about the narrator. She was a little bland and the accents a little weak. Better than I could have done and she was consistent. I think what I found most implausible was the speed of the whole thing. One day back in town and it’s all done. But I’ll read the next because I need something for a rainy afternoon.
Not sure about the whole genre of middle age centered paranormal. Being past that on one hand I like that it’s not another teen coming of age story. But I still want a well written series that pulls me in no matter the age of the or sex of protagonist. When you write a story to meet such a specific audience your starting with limitations.

1st ever audio book
This was my first audio book and what a great one to get you hooked. Not only was the book well written but the narrator was a delight.

Loved it
Mandy M. Roth crafted a great book with an original storyline. I hope this is just the beginning of a new series. This is the first time I have heard Allyson Voller narrate an audiobook, and I hope she continues with this series. I highly recommend book/audiobook to cozy mystery fans.
