Summary

The first three books in the best-selling Witches of Half Moon Bay series. Action-packed urban fantasy with a heavy dose of paranormal romance. Witches, werewolves, and WTF.

I’m what you call normal by day, and woo-woo by night.

As a college student, I spend my days in class and my evenings selling sage to PTA moms who do moon rituals to manifest better parking spaces. My best friend is a cat who likes pizza, and a “night out” includes hand delivering mysterious packages to the local “coven” of small business owners who repeatedly invite me to their meetings - clothing optional.

My life is weird. But it’s not magic. Magic isn’t real. At least, that’s what I believed - right up until the moment he walks into my store.

Alex Channing is rude, brutish, and a constant pain in my ass. He’s also the hottest specimen I’ve ever seen. Maybe that’s why words fail me in his presence. Or maybe it’s the pinging feeling in my gut that says he’s more than what he seems.

But when he miraculously saves me from certain death, at the hand of a monster whose very existence shouldn’t even be possible, I’m forced to reconsider what’s real.

My denial is strong, but the reality of who - and what - Alex really is can’t be ignored. Neither can the existence of the monsters who hunt me. The truth is magic is real. And the only thing I’m more in danger of losing than my life - is my heart.

Get hooked on werewolves and witches in a way you've never heard them before! This set contains the first three books in the best-selling Witches of Half Moon Bay series. Follow Sam and Alex on their journey through the world of witches, werewolves, and wtf!

Book 1-3

This is the first boxset in this series and there is another 3 Book boxset after this. These books focuses on Sam trying to recover her lost memories, finding out about the supernatural world and the much bigger story of what is happening and where she fits in it, while also following Alex and his story. With witch's, ware wolves and hunter's it has good potential. I enjoyed listening to the story and following the relationships between all the characters. The only thing that would make it better would have been having a male and female narrators which could be done with the different chapters as it split between following Sam or Alex more. Really looking forward to the next boxset to find out what happens next.

Good but cringe

I liked the story and everything. But the voices of the main character Sam, was painful to listen to. And the «building up» to romance was meh. Feel that the author tried to much and it was kind of cringe when Alexs feelings for Sam were described.

I did listen to all, but I did roll my eyes sometimes when I heard Sam and Alex talking to each other.

3 books with more to come!

Book 1 gives us an interesting back story. It took a little bit to get into because in the audio Sam and Alex’s voices sound very similar, but once I got into it I really enjoyed the story .
Book 2 gives us more romance, some answers we’ve been looking for and of course more questions!! Book 3 is in my future!!
Book 3 tears at me more than the others. The price was one I’m not a fan of so dragged my interest a bit. You see character growth in some of the characters and are left with a cliffhanger I never saw coming!

What’s going on here?

I’m 5 chapters in and I have no idea what is going on with these characters.
There’s a big difference between an air of mystery and not making any sense.
The only plus point so far is a decent narrator.

Difficult

Difficult to get into the story. Did not realise on the opening chapter that Alex was a man.

A slow start but then really good

I felt book 1 dragged a little bit, but it was very much worth sticking with as I loved books 2 and 3. The main characters were interesting, fun and well rounded, and developed nicely through the books, particularly Alex. The story, especially in books 2 and 3, had me hooked and I really want to know how things progress in the rest of the series.

My only other issue was the narrator's "out loud" voice for Sam was a bit high and whiney for me, but I got used to it and it wasn't enough to ruin the books. The rest of the voices were good and suited the characters well.

Misleading reviews.

I purchased this series because of all the glowing 5 star reviews but it was nothing like they described. Suspicious of a campaign where free books were provided for good reviews.

The heroin and lead characters act like petulant immature adolescent children. Chapter after chapter it got worse, not better.

Where’s the character growth someone said was great? Nope, just long winded inner monologues of Sam battling with fear and Alex’s self loathing.

Thrilling story lone? Try again, the story had very little depth. It was like listening to a teen age soap opera or reality tv show.

I listen to a ton of audio books so I’ve a lot to compare too. I typically love to support the hard work of authors and narrators and I really hate writing bad reviews but I hate being mislead even more.

1 credit for 3 books!! Great deal!

The book is told in dual POV. We meet Alex and Sam. Alex is a well trained Hunter and he’s on the hunt for a cure, and Sam is a college student who is trying to find herself. At some point their worlds collide, and that’s when the fun begins!!
Throughout the series we get to see Hunters, werewolves, and witches. It was such a fun listen and watching Alex stumble along the way was kinda nice since he is swoon worthy. It’s nice to knock a guy off the pedestal occasionally.
I would recommend this book-set to anyone who enjoys listening to paranormal romance books. Mainly this series focuses on hunters, witches, and werewolves.
16+ due to some mature content in the book.

I felt like the narrator, Kelly Pruner did a well job portraying Sam and Alex. The inflections she used were great and kept me listening till the very end.

Different narration may improve appreciation of st

Overall, I think the narration detracted from my ability to really enjoy or appreciate the story. First, the story is told from 2 POV's (female & male), though all is narrated by a girl who doesn't have a single masculine tone to her voice. That wouldn't be so bad, and her normal voice is fine - but the voice for when the MFC is speaking grinds on my ears and my nerves. It's that kind of whiney, higher pitched voice a girl gets when on the verge of crying and trying to talk while choking back tears. That's not just when the character is supposed to be emotional either, it's her "all the time" speaking voice.

As far as the story itself, there is nothing that irritates me more than an idiot female who is "supposed" to be smart. She's not supposed to be a ditzy idiot, yet some of her actions just don't make sense. Add to that, after the MMC has something happen to him that he had no control over, all of a sudden everyone is mad at him & acting as though his actions were his own choice. To me, this is an authors way of trying to create drama just to make sure the story isn't lacking drama. There isn't anything organic to it and it isn't at all believable.

Honestly, I think I would really really like this story if it had different narration & if the author made some minor changes to the believability of the story. In that case, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this series to a great many people who I know would enjoy it. As it is, it's not a series I would re-listen to.

Good storyline

The narrator’s voice for Sam can grate on your nerves when first listening because it makes you think of a petulant child instead of a young adult, but I got used to it. The storyline is good and keeps you interested. So interested that I’ve ordered 4,5&6.

it took me 3 hours to realize...

this is a follow-up to the dirty blood series. they do not say that in any of the description but I started recognizing character names and realize that this entire book series is a spin-off from the dirty blood series. it takes one of the side characters from dirty blood and puts her into the main role with some of the other characters from the series. it's really hard to follow if you haven't just read the dirty blood series but if you have this is great follow-up I suppose... I'm actually going to stop reading it go back and reread the dirty blood series because it's been a few years and then I will continue with this book so I feel more caught up.

Thankfully, it's a set!

Witches of Halfmoon Bay books 1-3 by Heather Hildenbrand and narrated by Kelly Pruner are a set of books surrounding Samantha Knight, a human dropped into the supernatural world to save it.
Book 1 spends its time on getting Samantha to believe in the supernatural world, when she is spending much of her time forgetting things.
Book 2 is trying to help Samantha learn what she needs to know to save the world.
Book 3 is Samantha using what she has learned, and continues to learn, to save Alex, who has been cursed.
Kelly Pruner does a good job with feminine voices, but I had a hard time figuring out which male was talking until it said who it was. Also the male POV was not done in a masculine voice. In my opinion, this would have been a perfect example for a duet narration.
Heather Hildenbrand has done an amazing wonderful job with world building and storyline. Each of the three books in this set continues to grow with the characters, but not continously tell you things from previous books unless they are pertinent to that dialogue or thought.
Would I listen to this book/series again? Yes
Would I recommend this book/series to others? Yes.
I think that it's well written for young teens and clean enough for older people who don't want lots of steam. They are sweet enough for me to tell my mom about them. That is a HUGE compliment from me.

Not completely about witches

I wasn't expecting this story to be about other creatures.. Thought it was only about witches. So, that was a bit of a disappointment The overall story was ok, though. Not sure if I'm going to continue on with the series or not. But since they left us hanging at the end of book 3, I probably will go on to the next.

Sucked Right In

I received an audio version of this boxed set for review: all opinions are my own.
I was sucked into this story. Sam was a great protagonist. She didn't fall into the fantasy tropes that get used so much. Instead, she was her own person and I was excited to follow her o her magical journey. The first book starts off great, drags a bit in the middle, but the ending is awesome. The second doesn't have that issue and was great entertainment. The last one changed tone a bit. there were some jokes I wasn't expecting (while there is nothing wrong with these jokes, it just seemed out of place.)
I enjoyed the narration. Some of the characters weren't given distinct voices but you could tell they were different from the main characters.
But overall, I love this first boxed said. I look forward to seeing what happens next.

long but entertaining

I'm a binge listener so I appreciated listening to the entire series. While I did find this story line long and entertaining I enjoyed the creative story line.
While 2 female characters voices were a bit squelchy - Kelly Pruner did a great job telling the story and giving lilt to each character and accent.

Main character is annoying

Story had potential but I couldn't stand the main character. She is angry ALL THE TIME. There's also not enough magic to hold my interest. Could only make it through the first book and half of the second one . Narration was good.
