Summary

Leichte Kost ist dieser erste deutsche "psychologische Roman" aus dem 18. Jahrhundert für Leser und Hörer nicht. Der Protagonist Anton Reiser muss in seiner Kindheit und Jugend unglaubliche Demütigungen bei der Suche nach seiner Identität, seinem "eigentlichen" Selbst ertragen. Das Ziel, nach dem er strebt, besteht indessen in äußerem Erfolg und glänzender Wirkung auf seine Mitmenschen. Das nimmt den Leser/Hörer nicht unbedingt für ihn ein.

Mit diesem Buch hat Moritz auch Einfluss auf die Pädagogik seiner Zeit nehmen wollen. Zitat: "Vielleicht enthält (...) diese Darstellung manche nicht ganz unnütze Winke für die Lehrer und Erzieher, woher sie Veranlassung nehmen könnten, in der Behandlung mancher ihrer Zöglinge behutsamer und in ihrem Urteil über dieselben gerechter und billiger zu sein." Der Roman ist Fragment geblieben.
