Summary

High in the hills of Scotland, an ancient evil has returned. One young woman struggling to master her magic is the only hope to stop it....

On the cusp of womanhood, Georjie longs to unlock the full force of her fae-given powers. So when she’s invited to Scotland, she’s eager to explore the Highlands’ famed fairy realm hoping to find a mentor. But instead of unearthing a teacher, she discovers a mummified body within the walls of a 17th-century ruin.

Teaming up with a handsome amateur historian, she uses her earth-elemental gift to overturn the secrets hidden deep in the soil. But never far from the trail of clues lurks a shadowy creature on the hunt for prey. And Georjie fears it may have found its first target when a local girl vanishes, only to be discovered in an open grave with her life slipping away...

Can Georjie break the curse before ancient evil claims an innocent victim?

Bones of the Witch is the first book in the explosive Earth Magic Rises YA contemporary fantasy series. If you like strong heroines, dark sorcery, and medieval Highland history, then you’ll love A.L. Knorr’s unforgettable adventure.

Amazing!!

This book is truly incredible and the entire series of this story in general. If you are thinking of buying the series then maybe consider buying ‘born of earth’ first. It isn’t technically part of the series, but it is the story of what happens before this book and everything that happens with her powers and stuff. Sorry if that’s a spoiler btw!! But yes this series is incredible and I love it!! Plus the narrator makes every character unique and easy to tell from each other. This book series in general is just amazing!! Sorry for ranting but you get my point...

Intriguing, Magical Mystery

I greatly enjoyed Bones of the Witch. It has a great plot and moves at a good pace. I really loved exploring more of Georjie’s capabilities with her and meeting her new friends. There is a great deal of mystery surrounding her journey to Scotland and the castle she boards at.
This part of her adventure ends with an intriguing cliffhanger. It left me excited to discover what secrets will be revealed next and find out if any of my questions will be answered.

Fantastic reading!

Marin has done a fantastic job of reading this; I’m very impressed with her ranges of accents (and there are a few in this book!) and it is read beautifully. As for the story I have been really looking forward to hearing this one, as I love the book, and I know that the next two in the trilogy are also fantastic so keep an eye open for them! Full of twists and turns, I think this is the first of Abby’s books that genuinely creeps me out in places, fantastically written and keeps you guessing right to the end… definitely worth a listen, and why not treat yourself to the book as well so you can read along… very much looking forward to the next two instalments of the audiobooks.

Another amazing listen

This is the first book in Georjie's story and it starts off with Georjie travelling to Scotland to visit Jasher, her adopted cousin. However, when she arrives, he knows nothing of her visit!

The story is very well written and there are lots of questions to be answered - why did the brambles come back bigger than ever when Georjie tried to remove them, who and why is there a dead body buried in the walls of the old building, what is the smoke-like creature, why do the roses at the castle bloom all year round.

Narration by Marni Penning was superb as always.

If this is your first book by AL Knorr, I recommend you read/listen to the Elementals stories first as they will give you the background on Georjie's powers, plus they will draw you into the wonderful world of AL Knorr's amazing imagination.

An Audiobook is a duet - and this is a great one!

Take a great story, add a great Narrator, and you're on the road to success!
Bones of the Witch is the first book of a new trilogy by A. L. Knorr, a successful author of YA literature. Ms. Knorr writes a very tight text, that keeps you focused on the story, without letup! You will start reading, and you'll continue reading and you'll finish your reading in one sitting, if you can. Now, add the talented Ms. Marni Penning and you'll skip breakfast, lunch and dinner. Ms. Marni Penning uses her voice as tool, to project the story into your mind via your ears, and she can play you like a fiddle (yep, the Devil lost that battle to her…).
So, a highly recommended book read by a highly recommended narrator. Enjoy!

BRILLIANT

Very intense story when the past is bought to the fore.
Georgie is flying blind here, from the mysterious calling to Scotland to the folklore surrounding the ancient land. I found this part 1 of the tale mesmerizing, scary and l have several questions l hope will be answered in the next installment.
Perfectly narrated.
RECOMMENDED STORY.

Slow Start

The story line was good...alot of the characters especially male sounded the same because of the accent...I hope...throughout the story there were parts I wish there was not as much description of people and places...it seemed to drag on at times, especially when the male fae was around..also blaming the main character when it did not go right, when the fae KNEW all along... it sounded like...what needed to be done, and did not, or would not give the info out. Impatiently waiting for book 2!

A break from the awesomeness of most Knorr books

Most books of A. L. Knorr's related to Elemental Origins I have enjoyed. The worst side of her stories is the implication that most people's hopes are futile, because of everyone being subject to the wims and evil ambitions of enormously, supernaturally powerful beings. This is greatly dampened by her stories turning out reasonably well in the end. This book, by itself, is a demonstration of this very undesirable quality. Leading to an edgy close, some of the last few books, including this one, convey a kind of incompetence or stupidity in the main character that is too obviously exaggerated for tension, drama, or some other sort of escalation. This is irritating enough that I'm not even curious enough to go back and read the one or more chapters I that I skipped.

AN INTERESTING TWIST OF FAIRY AND MYTH OF SCOTLAND

A GREAT STORY FULL OF LAUGHS, THRILLER, INTRIGUE AND SPOOKY SUSPENSE THROUGHOUT.
THE STORY IS WELL WRITTEN AND EASY TO FOLLOW. ACCEPTABLE FOR PEOPLE OF ALL AGES. JUST A SLIGHTLY MORE MATURE YOUTHFUL AUDIENCE FOR STARTING. JUST BY THAT I MEAN NOT SMALL CHILDREN.

THE NARRATOR MARNI PENNING IS WELL SPOKEN, GREAT AND EASY TO FOLLOW
