Summary

When an ex-marine and his highly trained dog are hired to protect the daughter of a Hollywood star, love was the furthest thing from their minds. But when it becomes clear that she is in danger, how far will he go to save her?

Perfect for fans of Nora Roberts, Roxanne St. Claire, heartwarming romantic suspense, and dog lovers everywhere!

Kane Turner is a simple man who cares nothing for riches. Scarred both physically and mentally from his tours as a marine, all Kane cares about is his bike, beer, and dog Bud - and not necessarily in that order. He lives in a trailer on the beach, working security detail for his friend’s company, protecting some of the wealthiest (and most superficial) people in the world with loyal Bud at his side.

Ask anyone and they’d tell you that Lexi Gray-Rockefeller has it all. The daughter of Hollywood royalty, she’s rich, one of the most stunning women in the world with parents who dote on her. Yet Lexi is lonely. All she wants is to work with animals. She doesn’t care for the LA lifestyle, having struggled to make any lasting relationships: People are generally too in awe of her family or befriend her only for what they can get.

Following a series of threats, Kane is hired to protect Lexi, yet despite their world of differences the two of them find themselves falling in love. In Kane (and his dog Bud), Lexi has found an authentic soul who doesn’t care who her parents are or how wealthy she is, while Lexi is the one person who can seemingly heal Kane’s wounds.

When Lexi is kidnapped, Kane only has a short time to save her. Can he find her before time runs out?

Heat level: a hint of steam - nothing graphic.

This book also covers billionaire and military themes. This is a stand-alone book with no cliffhangers, though you'll get the best experience by enjoying the series in order.

Stand alone story

"A Heartwarming Suspenseful Romance for Dog Lovers" sounds like a description for my absolute ideal book. The story was entertaining and I liked the characters. It truly seemed like a stand alone story and if there was set up for any future books, it wasn't obvious. Joanne Ho was a new author for me and I would like to read/listen to more by this author. Allyson Voller was a new narrator for me, but she did a great job. I would listen to more by this narrator. #AudiobookObsession

Heartwarming romance

I really liked this feel-good heartwarming romance. The characters were loveable and mature. I liked how quick they both overcame their first initial prejudice about one another and opened up their hearts. This story was so refreshing an enjoyable. I loved all those rescue pets but Bud stole my heart. I liked the writing style. I couldn't quite catch the concept behind the title though. Allyson Voller's narration was very good. I liked her voice and pace. I enjoyed her performance very much. Very good quality too. 🎧AudiobookObsessionReviewer

Feel-good, pet friendly Romantic Suspense!

I really enjoyed this audiobook. There is so much sweetness in the story. A marine vet with his special canine companion meets his client, a reclusive daughter of stars in LA. If you enjoy your romances with nail-biting moments, plenty of pet fun and lots of romantic angst, this book has it all! It leaves you feeling happy, a little in love and with a desire to get a pet of your own (if you don't have one or another pet if you do!). This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. Thank you for your review.

Until the Stars Don't Shine

Very enjoyable audiobook, believable and likeable characters, lots of intrigue and suspense next to the sweet romance developing between the main characters and a bunch of adorable rescue pets. All brought to live by the narrator doing an excellent job immersing me into the story. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

A book made for the silver screen

Wow, I loved this book. I don't normally choose Chick Lit audio books much preferring a good mystery but I really think this author is very talented and as it is a new series I thought I would give it a go. So glad I did, because I loved it. Okay so it wasn't really a mystery in the general sense of the word but it did contain an element of it as to who was threatening Lexi, so I was hooked and didn't want to stop listening. I really liked the characters who were believable as people and like able at the same time but I think Bud the dog stole the show for me. He sounds adorable and a dream dog, I just hope my dog was taking notes on how to behave. There was romance in the story but it didn't bog down the plot or get in the way of tension created by the stalker. If the snippet at end of the book is any indication of what is to come in the next book then I will definitely be looking out for it, even If it is under the heading of romantic suspense. Kane Turner and his dog Bud have been hired to provide security for another rich kid, he was meant to be getting some time off so he can get the peace and quite he craves after dealing with rich and highly demanding clients that make up the rich and famous. But his boss promise his dog a nice big bone if he will do this one job and then he can have all the time he needs. He had Kane at the mention of treat because who can get in the way of a treat for Bud? His protectee is Lexi Gray-Rockefeller the daughter of the riches and most powerful couple in Hollywood but surprisingly the daughter herself seems shy of the limelight and there have been no recent photos of her since she finished her school days. The family have been getting threatening letters and with a big birthday party planned the power couple want to ensure there families safety and hire Kane and Bud as bodyguards. The problem is Lexi doesn't know about the threats and her parent's want it to stay that way. Can Kane get past his prejudices about the rich and keep Lexi safe? Because there is more to Lexi than just a spoilt rich girl. I really like the narrator and was pleased to find that she read the story. She has a way of making the tension in the story build without you realising she is do it it, so you can't help but get swept up in the story. Loved it!

Until the Stars Don't Shine, is a refreshing and entertaining romantic suspense, it's wonderfully written, well-plotted, and quite enjoyable. The storyline is engaging, suspenseful, romantic, passionate, somewhat emotional, angsty, and even cute. The main characters are well-developed and absolutely delightful. Our heroine, Lexi, daughter to Hollywood royalty, was raised in luxury. What I liked about her is that she is down-to-earth, independent, confident, and generous, and prefers to stand on her own two feet. After her parents find out that she is threatened, they hire private security for her protection. Kane, our handsome hero, is a security specialist and an ex-marine, assigned to protect Lexi. His dog and partner, Buddy, is an uber-smart and brave security dog, and the star of the book, being a dog-lover, he completely stole my heart. I loved how the characters interacted, and the dialogue flowed naturally, emotions were authentic. I was hooked from the very beginning. Allyson Voller did an excellent job with the narration; she portrayed the characters very nicely, capturing the emotions and intensity of the scenes. The Silver Screen Secrets series has loads of potential, and I can't wait to find out what the second book will bring. I really enjoyed and definitely will recommend this audiobook. Dogs, Love, Security Spectacular

I received this audiobook free for an honest review. This is a story of rich girl falling in love with her security guard. However, this is not typical. In enters Buddy, the security dog. Of course Lexi, as a pet lover, has something in common with Kane, love for animals. This story is very well written. The suspenseful romance, keeps the listener's attention from beginning to end. I really enjoyed this clean/wholesome story. The narrator is new to me. She did an excellent job with the characters and their personalities.

love it

Lexi is a daughter of Hollywood royalty. She has been kept out of the paparazzi spotlight. Until the day some very private photos appeared online. Also there have been threats against her. Kane and his dog Bud were hired to be her bodyguard. Bud is a well trained dog who was really an integral part of the story. Kane always followed the rules, except when it came to Lexi! the first rule was never get involved with your client. Allyson Voller narration was very good. She captured the emotions and brought the story to life. I enjoyed listening to this sexy, romantic, suspenseful story. 🎧audiobookobsession reviewer🎧

Wonderful Suspense and Romance

So, I will start with my parent review- PG13-R/18+ language was mild (no f-bombs), mild violence but nothing graphic, the rating has more to do with the love making scenes- although not overly graphic there's definitely more than enough detail to thoroughly paint the picture. Tastefully done and not at the level of Fifty Shades of Grey but if you like having the door closed early this one does not. I recommend for readers 18+. As for the story, it was thrilling and quite lovely! Like many romance novels the romance is a bit predictable (which, face it, we all love that) but the suspense/thriller side of this one nicely kept me on my toes and guessing. I loved the dog element and thought the narrator did a great job with the voice differentiation and overall performance. Wonderful story and I definitely recommend this to the adult romance reader! —I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Excellent Audiobook

This is the first book I've read/listened to by Joanne Ho. I wasn't quite in the mood for it so I was downloading others to listen to when I accidentally hit download. After finishing the others, I decided to go ahead and listen to this book. I'm so glad I did!! I LOVED Lexi. She was such a down to earth, kind, caring woman. Kane was a dream kind of man. I was so invested in them They made an excellent couple. Although I did guess who the villain was, the story kept me in suspense about how it would all play out. Allyson Voller did a wonderful job. She has such a soothing voice. She wasn't consistent in keeping the different characters separate, but it was still easy to follow along with who was speaking. She did well with both male and female voices. I'd like to hear her in more books. #AudiobookObsessionReviewer

A sweet romance with a terrific dog

At times while listening to Until the Stars Don't Shine, I think both I (the listener) and Joanne Ho (the author) were more in love with Bud, our hero Kane's, dog, than interested in the actual story. Yes, Kane has a semi-tragic past, and yes, Lexi has to overcome societal misconceptions, but the dog is BRILLIANT! Several times while listening I looked at my own poor, pathetic pooch, and said "Why can't you do that?" The story was fine: SPOILER ALERT: boy meets girl, doubts girl's sincerity, comes to believe in girl's true character, falls for the girl but doubts he's good enough, rescues girl from a villain, and declares everlasting love. There were a few plot holes (the parents who were paying through the nose for their daughter's security failed to notice when she didn't come home for a night? the BRILLIANT dog somehow wasn't paying attention during the villain's critical move?) but overall, it was a fun, enjoyable romance. And did I mention the dog was incredible? I asked for and was gifted a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an objective review. I look forward to more from this series.

Excellent Suspenseful Romance!

It did not take long for this story to suck me in and I found it hard to put down. The main characters are very likable and the story flows at a great pace. I also found the theme very unique with one of the characters being a wealthy Hollywood royalty daughter and the guy an ex-marine. The narration was good and brought the story to life. Bud is a great character and almost steals the show. Nothing like an intelligent dog to add to the well-written story. The two main characters, although from completely different backgrounds, have their love for animals in common. This is a captivating suspenseful romance that will have you in the edge of your seat trying to figure out Who could be behind the threats against Lexi. There is a short introduction to the next book in this series after the conclusion and before I knew it I’m already hooked! I’m looking forward to the second book in this series.

Loved this!

There is nothing better than finding a new author to love! Joanne Ho writes the first book, Until the Stars Don't Shine, in her Silver Screen series, and I am in love. The story features Lexi, the daughter of a famous actress who has been sheltered from the craziness of the public eye. She has never lost sight of what is important in life. Now her life is being threatened, and her parents have taken action, hiring a bodyguard. Kane is the best at his job, and with his partner, Bud, they are unstoppable. Given the task of keeping Lexi safe, they are on top of her protection. And I am in love. Yes, Kane is a fantastic character. A veteran with PTSD, and a will to keep things as normal as possible, he is amazing. Lexi is as real as can be, and she compassionate and loving. But for me, Bud is my love interest. This dog is just amazing! In tune to his master and understanding his mission as well as just being an amazing pet, he stole my heart. Joanne Ho has a winner on her hands, with a romantic suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat and win your heart. Allyson Voller gives a fantastic performance. I love her voice in all of her narrations as she really finds the essence of the story and brings it out through her voice. She finds Kane's venerability and though keeps him the protector, has a slight passiveness to his voice, making him real. I loved her voice for Lexi, keeping her a little scared and very determined. And she brings all the others to life, with a different sound, each their own. It is a listen of pure enjoyment.

Great Story & Narration🎧 Entertaining & Enjoyable!

This book is entertaining and enjoyable, the story is original and interesting, it swept me right in and lead characters Lexi, Kane & Bud, the best dog ever. Lexi, daughter of Hollywood royalty, grew up in luxury, but she never took any of it for granted. She did not want any favoritism when it came to her job and started from the bottom, she loves animals and does a lot of charity work and fundraising for them. Her parents are very protective of her so when threats are made against her they keep her in the dark about it but do hire extra security. Kane, former marine and security expert takes the job as a favor, he is not thrilled about it because he knows the Hollywood types could be difficult and their kids may be spoiled brats. I loved how Kane and Lexi first meet, he is quite taken with what he sees, Bud took to her immediately too. I also love how everything plays out in this book, it is cleverly plotted, there are some sweet and delightful elements in this book as well as a bit of mystery and thrilling suspense. There is also drama, some angst, a whole lot of heart and the start of a wonderful romance. Joanne Ho, thank you for this amazing story and the emotional rollercoaster ride. Allyson Voller is a fabulous narrator and voice artist. She does an amazing job portraying the characters, bringing them to life, humanizing them but giving them their own voice and personality, as well as heart and emotions. She sets the perfect tone for the story, includes a dramatic touch in her performance which enhances the great story to another level of greatness. She is a talented and entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen🎧 "I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."
