About this listen
USA Today best-selling author Dakota Willink delivers an emotionally gripping, dark romantic suspense that is guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat!
Gianna: There’s a common expression I remind myself of every day: that which does not kill us, makes us stronger. People think I live an idyllic life with my perfect husband, but they don’t know what lies beneath the façade. Like the delicate petals of the daisies he loved to give, I was easily crushed—broken, just as he wanted me to be. I’ve learned to accept what is, but I won’t let it destroy me. Instead, I do the only thing I can to survive—I run.
Derek: I knew she had a story. I knew it most likely contained violence. But never did I imagine the horrors she’d been through. I’d waited so long and she’d experienced so much. She was perfectly imperfect, her scars more than skin deep. It was near impossible to separate truths from lies, but I knew her secret. And yet, I couldn’t help wanting to get closer. She was strong, and there was beauty in strength. I was drawn to it—drawn to her. I wanted to erase her horrors and give her something new to dream about.
*Trigger warning: This story contains situations of domestic violence and abuse. Some aspects may be sensitive for some listeners.*

Gianna never really stood a chance of avoiding her nightmare marriage to Ethan, the corrupt cop with an obsession for her. (This book was similar to Shattered by AK MacBride but a lot darker) She finally bolts and is reuinted with Derek, the hot gym trainer who she met on her wedding day to Ethan, and she begins trying to rebuild herself after the traumas she suffered. Ethan's wife hunting skills are beyond her greatest fears, and he's been at the business of hunting down women and controlling women a lot longer than anyone ever could have anticipated. Derek was everything she needed to face the shadows in her past and helping her find liberation.
I can't say too much without giving out spoilers and ruining important plot points, so all I will say is I really enjoyed the triple narration which allowed us to see everyone's POV.
Ethan was definitely one crazy I wouldn't want to catch the attention of.
Empowering.

The narrators were so brilliant with the way they brought all three characters to life. They poured every emotion felt by each character into my earbuds that it was impossible to not live the moments with them, as if they were happening in front of me. Ethan was so damaged and deluded, Gianna, so pure and innocent and Derek, the perfect gentleman. Having Ethan’s POV was so weirdly reassuring. It was good to know his background and where all his depravity came from. I’m glad Gianna found herself post broken marriage and before she found live again with Derek.
As Derek said there is beauty in strength and we should feel empowered by this book. We are strong!

Gia was such a strong character that grew so much throughout the book, learning how to be stronger inside and outside. She didn't have an easy journey but she was able to overcome her obstacles against all odds.
I hope that people who read this story and are or have in a similar situation get inspired by Gia's journey and learn that there's someone out there who will help them and that it's not their fault what's happening.
As for the narration, Sarah Puckett, Sean Crisden and Connor Crais where super great they bring the characters to live and make you enjoy the story so much more.
