Summary

Psychopath. No sooner is the word out than images of murderers, suicide bombers and gangsters flash across our minds. But unlike their box-office counterparts, not all psychopaths are violent or even criminal. In fact they are fearless, confident, ruthless and focused - qualities tailor-made for success in twenty-first-century society.

In this groundbreaking adventure into the world of psychopaths, renowned psychologist Kevin Dutton reveals a shocking truth: psychopaths have something to teach us.

Critic reviews

" The Wisdom of Psychopaths is a surprising, absorbing, and perceptive book...I found it altogether fascinating." (Philip Pullman)
"Dutton tackles an elusive, important and much neglected aspect of the mind; our personality. He presents some highly original insights and does so in a provocative and humorous style." (V. S. Ramachandran, author of The Tell-Tale Brain)

Route to the psychopath’s mind

I think every one going to the University should read this (or in this case have it read to them) to get a glimpse of how to deal with a Psychopath.
Very insightful and at times entertaining.
David Timson is the best narrator that I have heard. David makes this book a marvellous rollercoaster, sometimes he is reading it to you, most of the time he is talking to you.

Excellent audiobook

Solid book, great use of research and fantastic narration. Interesting theme that takes the reader off on many paths, then manages to tie everything together and provoke thought and debate.

Dangerously good.

The exploration of psychopathy from different angles with human stories and touches of humour was an accomplished way of turning a dark subject into a very interesting one. It has gone on the "must read and listen to again list"

Interesting and well read

Really enjoyed this book. The subject was fascinating and the author tied all of the arguments to genuine research. The narrator was brilliant. The narrator really drew me in and was a really good choice.

Interesting angle

Makes you rethink your view of psychopaths and how they operate. Sadly they are all around us but we can learn a thing or two and sometimes they have utility.

disturbing..

really interesting study- disturbing at times. very well narrated. some passages quite technical but peppered with enough anecdotes for the layman to grasp the theories behind the narrative.

This is not a good book... Sorry

I read Kevin Duttons other book"flipnosis" and loved it. One thing that seemed odd though was that he kept going off topic (persuasion) to talk about psychopaths.
I could see the loose connection between good persuaders I guess but he was obsessed.

Seeing this book I thought "brilliant... a structured book based solely on what he's passionate about".

What I actually got was a long, unstructured ramble with less actual content than flipnosis.

Honestly couldn't recommend Flipnosis more (print version) but you can skip this one.

Sorry

it wasn't very informative

it was less of a how to on acting like a sociopath in certain moments and more a pun infested diatribe on what must be very scripted interactions I seriously doubt Kevin ever had
