Summary
Now a Netflix film starring Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Ana de Armas
The first Gray Man novel from number one New York Times best-selling author Mark Greaney.
To those who lurk in the shadows, he’s known as the Gray Man. He is a legend in the covert realm, moving silently from job to job, accomplishing the impossible and then fading away. And he always hits his target. Always.
But there are forces more lethal than Gentry in the world. Forces like money. And power. And there are men who hold these as the only currency worth fighting for. In their eyes, Gentry has just outlived his usefulness.
But Court Gentry is going to prove that, for him, there’s no gray area between killing for a living and killing to stay alive....
Get ready for white-knuckled listening. Greaney's debut novel introduces the enigmatic and elusive Court Gentry, a former CIA operative and a legendary hired gun. With a terrifying ability to vaporize targets and a strict moral code, he stalks the gray margins of the world, moving silently from job to job, accomplishing the impossible, then fading away. When his government and former employers turn on him, there is no safehouse to run to, no way to lie low. In a constant state of escape and pursuit, Gentry tears through the Middle East and Europe in a riveting life-or-death race against time.

Great story, poor narration
If you can get past the Voice Over Man type narration the story is very good. The plot makes you want to keep listening. very good, poor narration.

Weak story… started well but then was boring
Quite a weak plot really…..it the premise was fine but then just gets lost in tedious chase after chase. What started well just becomes a very dull listen. I then watched the film and I can see where the screenwriters have played with the plot and characters to try and liven the story up but even they struggled. Real shame as it had promise.

Good pace & action. Weak plot & story line.
Well written prose with good pace and action. But let down by clumsy story line and plot. This is the author’s debut novel- perhaps gets better in subsequent books.

Enjoyable
Enjoyable and entertaining listen. Excellent performance. Certainly better than the Netflix adaptation. I’m going to give book 2 a go next.

Superhuman hitman
Almost quit reading during the first chapter when ragheads were dancing on the bodies of patriot Americans who died wrapped in the US flag. Well almost. It got better though, and ended up being quite entertaining in a comic book Willie Garvin way.

very basic
well paced but full of unnecessary homophobic language and very basic use of adjectives. good enough to listen all the way through but possibly more because of the narrator than quality of the story.

Entertaining Drivel
If you could sum up The Gray Man in three words, what would they be?
Quite an entertaining story - not challenging in any way shape or form but good background listening when you are doing things around the house.
An enjoyable listen when you have switched your brain off.
Any additional comments?
The narrator's pronunciation is dreadful. Annoyed me at first, then made me laugh as it was so ludicrous - listen out for Citroen, Tblisi and Peugeot.
