Summary

All Christians know they should pray, but sometimes it's hard to know how - especially if the minutes start to drag, and our minds start to wander. Offering listeners hope, encouragement, and the practical advice they're looking for, this concise book by Professor Donald Whitney outlines a simple, time-tested method that can help transform our prayer lives: praying the words of the Bible. Praying the Bible shows listeners how to pray through portions of scripture one line at a time, helping us stay focused by allowing God's word itself to direct our thoughts and words. Simple yet profound, this resource will prove invaluable to all Christians as they seek to commune with their Heavenly Father in prayer each and every day.

Simple, practical method for prayer

A simple method to encourage prayer, primarily based on reading through some Psalms verses and praying what comes to mind. We are not constrained by the original meaning; we are using biblical texts as a springboard for prayer rather than as a Bible study.

Very well read by the narrator. You'll grasp the very practical and effective concept quickly and your prayer life may just be transformed.

Great encouragement to pray

This book was a real encouragement throughout, to think about how I pray and to relate it far more to the Bible. I enjoy reading the scriptures and this helped me to use them more.

This is Life Changing!

I never really gave much thought about how to change my repetitive prayers to The Lord! I was conscious that they were quite ‘dry’ and yes, you could say boring…

Apart from specific intercessory prayers (& even they can get repetitive), there isn’t always a way to pray with originality. Until now.

This book is life changing, because it’s prayer changing.

I listened (many times) to this title, read admirably by the author himself. I can highly recommend this.

Puts new life into prayer life

What did you like most about Praying the Bible?

What I liked most about this book was its simplicity. Taking a psalm, for example, and praying through it was something I'd heard about before but it was never explained in the way Whitney does it. Giving yourself a number of set psalms each day to look at and picking the one most relevant at the time certainly sets you up on the path of decreasing the likelihood of your prayer being boring or repetitive. Definitely worth a read for anyone struggling with prayer.
