Story
One woman's struggle against the darkness of Hong Kong's drug dens. Until it was pulled down, the Walled City was Hong Kong's most foreboding territory. It was a lawless place, dominated by the Triads, and which the police hesitated to enter. Strangers were unwelcome. Drug smuggling and heroin addiction flourished, as did prostitution and pornography, extortion and fear. When Jackie Pullinger set sail from England in 1966 she had no idea that God was calling her to the Walled City.

Story
If ye have faith and doubt not...all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. Why are many Christians often defeated? Because they pray so little. Why do most Christians see so few brought out of darkness to light by their ministry? Because they pray so little. Why are our churches simply not on fire for God? Because there is so little real prayer. We may be assured of this: The secret of all failure is our failure in secret prayer. The Lord Jesus is as powerful today as ever before.

The Life of Trust contains his diary up to 1860, supplemented by autobiographical notes at the start and throughout the text. Mueller founded a number of orphanages in England in the 19th century whilst refusing to personally benefit in any way, fully trusting that God would provide in his financial needs. Throughout his life, he relied on God’s goodness in order to feed, clothe, and house thousands of English children under his care.

Story
For 300 years, The Pilgrim's Progress has remained perhaps the best-loved and most read of devotional fictions. In plain yet powerful and moving language, Bunyan tells the story of Christian's struggle to attain salvation and the Gates of Heaven. He must pass through the Slough of Despond, ward off the temptations of Vanity Fair, and fight the monstrous Apollyon. In Part II, his wife and children follow the same path, helped and protected by Great-heart, until for them, too, "the trumpets sound on the other side."

Story
As Adolf Hitler and the Nazis seduced a nation, bullied a continent, and attempted to exterminate the Jews of Europe, a small number of dissidents and saboteurs worked to dismantle the Third Reich from the inside. One of these was Dietrich Bonhoeffer. In the first major biography of Bonhoeffer in 40 years, New York Times best-selling author Eric Metaxas takes both strands of Bonhoeffer's life - the theologian and the spy - to tell a searing story of incredible moral courage in the face of monstrous evil.

The dramatic autobiography of one of China's dedicated, courageous, and intensely persecuted house church leaders. This is the gripping story of how God took a young, half-starved boy from a poor village in Henan province and placed him on the front line for Jesus, in the face of impossible odds. Instead of focusing on the many miracles or experiences of suffering, however, Yun prefers to focus on the character and beauty of Jesus.

She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....

This profound and striking narrative takes the form of a series of letters from Screwtape, a devil high in the Infernal Civil Service, to his nephew Wormwood, a junior colleague engaged in his first mission on Earth trying to secure the damnation of a young man who has just become a Christian. Although the young man initially looks to be a willing victim, he changes his ways and is ‘lost’ to the young devil.

John Brown's biography of John Bunyan remains the standard, despite the lapse of over 100 years since it was first published. The author was one of Bunyan's successors as minister of the church in Bedford. He shows that many of the scenes familiar to readers of Pilgrim's Progress reflect local places and events and personal experience in the trials and joys of the Christian life.
Summary
Through faith in the Lord Jesus alone can we obtain forgiveness of our sins and be at peace with God; but, believing in Jesus, we become, through this very faith, the children of God; have God as our Father; and may come to him for all the temporal and spiritual blessings we need.
When he trusted in an extraordinary God, George Müller discovered endless possibilities and helped thousands of people throughout his lifetime. The Autobiography of George Müller is his inspiring journey from his life of sin and rebellion to his eye-opening conversion to Christianity. Share his struggles and triumphs as he establishes orphan homes to care for thousands of children. Müller's unwavering dependence upon his heavenly Father will inspire listeners to confidently trust God in every area of life.

What an amazing testimony of God’s financial provision for a very worthwhile ministry. No one was asked for money in order that God be glorified. Only downside was the repetition of stated sums received but great teaching none the less.

Powerful autobiography showing the power of prayer
Time after time Mueller prayed and God answered and provided! A challenging and encouraging autobiography narrating the life of this man used greatly of God in the 1800s. It is a long listen but well worth the time. It will leave you with the challenge to pray expectantly, with dependence on God to act and provide .

Hidden Jewels
Book is repetitious which I don't mind. My philosophy is repetiion is the key to learning. The accounts may seem unlikely to the inexperienced in faith. But to those who have tasted and know the Lord is good Müller's accounts simply give confirmation of the God you serve.
It was interesting to hear the gem of how God used Mülller's book to spark the fire for those who had a part in the revivals that took place in Europe.
May God raise more men and woman who will dare to see if the Lord does in fact provide for His own as a testimony to our generation.

Already read 4 times, starting 5th
Would you consider the audio edition of The Autobiography of George Müller to be better than the print version?
The book is wonderfully read, making what could be a dull diary very compelling instead.
What did you like best about this story?
Mr. Muller was obviously a detail person, noting each hae'penny given to his work. Interspersed with the detail is a narrative of stated need and the resulting supply in answer "to prayer to God alone," as he says over and over. These matches of need and supply are astounding and very encouraging. At the beginning of the book, one learns that the young George Muller was quite a scoundren of the lying and cheating and stealing sort. While that narrative is interesting, I needed to hear it only once. Am skipping those early chapters on subsequent readings.
What does Derek Perkins bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Mr. Perkins has added personality to words on the page. I bought a second book on Mr. Muller, with a different reader, and had a problem making the transition to a new voice for the story. Mr. Perkins has become the "real deal" personna of Mr. Muller.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
At times, I have to turn the speakers off to revel in the events presented. Am on my fifth time through, and everything still seems fresh and new.
Any additional comments?
For anyone considering a life of dependent faith, this text is our Mother Ship. It's scripture in action, and an unbeatable testimony of what trust in God yields. Highly recommended.
