God is calling you to a passionate love relationship with Himself. Because the answer to religious complacency isn’t working harder at a list of do's and don'ts - it's falling in love with God.

Story
Christians today are facing a crisis of influence. In our rush to speak truth to today's tensions, cultural issues, and trending controversies, it becomes all too easy to focus on proving our points rather than extending God's grace. Conversely, when we seek only to love yet never proclaim a better way, we short-circuit God's plan. Truth Plus Love invites you to rediscover the biblical framework for engaging culture as ambassadors of Christ. Through biblical insight, cultural analysis, and practical principles, Matt Brown outlines how to champion truth without compromise.

Up and Down
On the down-side this book sounds like a very long-winded sermon. It's very black and white and Rick often states opinion as fact...which he tries so very hard to justify by continually saying 'the bible says...' and in all honesty there were a fair few times when I felt instead like throwing the bible squarely back at Rick. In a nutshell, when Rick is on form he is undeniably correct and you wil find yourself at the very least actively nodding in agreement. On the other side, Rick can be infuriating to listen to. When he's right he's spot on...otherwide he's totally off the mark. There's no inbetween or grey. For example Rick states that we are 'slaves to God'..on number of occasions his use of language frustrated and even offended. Three stars though because there is a lot of good in this book....best taken in small doses.

If you want to find your purpose read your Bible!
There are many other better written, more helpful books you could read. This one is just regurgitating the same as any other person in this field does, with the addition of a the occasional bible verse and references to Christianity.
Over rated, so many better Christian authors you should read first... but of course if you REALLY want to know your purpose... READ YOUR BIBLE! I've found it so helpful this past year, so much I didn't know!
For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,

It has commercials in between chapters - ICK
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Yes, if they are Christian. I love the author and his style. I listen to his podcasts regularly. he makes Christianity, well, not so "offensive" as I remember it from childhood. He makes it OK and understandable. Now, if I could just get past my doubts I have about the translation of the Bible.
And, if they would remove the commercials in between the chapters read by the lady with the sickening voice, it would be far better!
Would you be willing to try another book from Rick Warren? Why or why not?
Yes. I like his style. He is down to earth and humorous.
What does Rick Warren bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His delivery is pretty darn awesome. He sounds like the kind of guy you's want to have a beer with - to be your neighbor - to be your friend.
Could you see The Purpose Driven Life being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No - it is not a story.
Any additional comments?
LOSE THE DARN COMMERCIALS IN BETWEEN THE CHAPTERS! The sappy voice of the lady that reads these makes me want to vomit.

Very well reasoned and contagiuos, with big bias
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
The preaches are very nicely achived, and very well founded. The narrative and the passion of Rick is contagious. But I didn't like that at certain point of the book, little by little, it hints that the purpose of everyone's life is to live in the church, by the church and for the church. The book doesn't show a way to find your purpose, it tries to convince you that everyone 's purpose is the church.
Did The Purpose Driven Life inspire you to do anything?
The book inspires to take action and fix several flaws you may have in your path for a more spiritual christian life.

Short chapters
What did you love best about The Purpose Driven Life?
I've enjoyed listening to this book because while it is intended to be read/listened to in 40 days, it's easy to pick back up if you break the pattern. Rick Warren does a good job of explaining his ideas with analogies and short sayings that are easy to remember.

Answers THAT question you always wanted to ask!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. It IS very much based on the Bible, but then, if you are looking at this book, you know Rick is a Pastor. As someone that had bad experiences in several churches growing up, and not a fan of God's "fan clubs" (what I call organized religious groups) - I REALLY enjoy Rick's books, podcasts and overall style. Even if you are not a believer in God, there are so many things in this book that are worth hearing and learning. We have to live with 7 billion others on this planet - there are so many gems in this book that are helpful to any human being.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Purpose Driven Life?
Too many to list....I am listening to it again in fact....
What about Rick Warren’s performance did you like?
I just LOVE his story-telling style - I think that is my favorite part - he makes learning FUN! He is humorous and down-to-earth. He's the kind of guy you would wanna sit on the porch with a drink a glass of iced tea. Not at all a typical "preacher."
What insight do you think you’ll apply from The Purpose Driven Life?
Gosh, way too many to list. Way too many. So many good quotes (not just biblical either) and so many good insights based on common sense...I think that it made me see that life s worth living...which I didn't think it was before.
Any additional comments?
Give it a listen! Well worth your time!

Eye Opening for me
What made the experience of listening to The Purpose Driven Life the most enjoyable?
I went into this book based on a recommendation from a friend so I was unsure what to expect. I'm a Christian in every sense of the word and I wanted to find a way to better live my life. After listening to this book my eyes are as the title of my review suggests: Wide open. So many questions I've had were answered and by listening I realized that while I strive to be a good person, I do fall very far from hitting the perfect mark.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Rick does a great job of talking to you and not preaching to you. I think if you have someone telling you what you should do, how you should do it, and then back it all up with Scripture really goes a long way at helping people understand why something should be done. For me it was tithing. My parents did, I know lots of other people who do it, but I never really saw the reason to struggle even more financially by tithing. How wrong I have been.
What about Rick Warren’s performance did you like?
He has a nice tone and very easy to listen to.
What did you learn from The Purpose Driven Life that you would use in your daily life?
I think the big take away for me is knowing that even though I may not be perfect, I'm not really expected to be. I've learned that worship is very different from what I was taught worship was.

A MUST READ FOR CHRISTIANS
I started this book as a kickstart to the new year. Thte first couple of chapters are a little slow but I'm so hsappy that I stuck with it. By the middle of the book, I could hardly put itt down. I really liked the points to ponder and thet reflection questions. This book helped me realign my life with what God wants for it and heped me focus on the important work of building my life around eternity rather than the here and now. GREAT READ!
