Summary

What are you hungry for, really?

You may have been drawn to the idea of mindful eating as an antidote to the empty promises of the diet industry, or you may have felt that it's time to pursue a more purposeful, more compassionate way of eating.

Whatever your reasons and whatever your current relationship to food and your body is, this book can help you reconsider your eating habits and whether they are truly serving your highest good.

Through an exploration of the real reasons we overeat, our thoughts and feelings around food, and coming into closer contact with our own true appetites, this book aims to help you craft an open and accepting attitude toward food.

Mindful eating is an attitude toward food (and much more) that encourages awareness, deliberate action, and an open acceptance of the present moment as it unfolds around us.

In this book, we'll look at how the conventional dieting mindset is actually damaging and counterproductive, and how mindful eating can be a refreshing break away from all the expectations that you have about yourself and food that are not serving you.

The ultimate goal is to become exquisitely tuned in to your own appetites, desires, and passions, and to tune out the noise and clutter from the outside world that muffle your innate intuition about what is good for you and what isn't.

When we understand our true hunger, when we realize the psychological, emotional, behavioral, physical, and even spiritual causes behind our overeating, only then can we can start to take realistic steps to remedy it.

You validated my thoughs about my recent mindless eating. Desire to be loved. Divorce after 20 yrs broke me. I went from size 7 to a 22, in 1 yr. I also brought on Hashimoto's disease from the stress and not eating properly. My husband and family were very emotionally abusive through the years, jealousy on his sisters part and his father treated women like objects. I deployed to Iraq in 2009-2010. I was injured and have some scars across my chest. I had severe PTSD upon my return and was treated like I was a broken toy.
I am in counseling and finding out, it was not me, it was he and his family, that are truly broken.
For 20 yrs I craved love, but was treated like a trophy wife, only to be discarded when I came home broken. The trophy wife years were, take me out only , when it was time to impress someone.
Thank your audio book, it gives me hope. I will be listening to it , any time I need support. Which will be quite a bit in these next 6 months. I have bought an elliptical and you will be joining me.
Thank you again, for your support.

Very basic, yet useful information

An interesting overview on Mindful Eating, even though it will not teach you any kind of exercises.

Just what I was looking for!!!

I’ve always felt like there was an inner voice subtly speaking to me about many things. This book has prompted me to become more aware of this “internal compass” so that it can take its place up front rather than remaining in the background up under a whole lot of emotions, habits, false beliefs, etc. I am excited to start my journey towards “being present and in the moment as I make choices about my life INCLUDING THE FOOD I CHOOSE TO TAKE IN!!! Thank you so much Simeon Lindstrom for writing this book!

Great short summary

This is a very thoughtful and casual presentation of mindful eating. I very much enjoyed listening to this audiobook and looking forward to trying out the suggestions. I wish there were more advice about what to do when your environment and time constraints don’t allow to be mindful.

good, short, insightful<br />

Everything by this author is worth the time. I plan to read everything available. The minimalist budget is a good one too.

Enjoyed the Book

I enjoyed this book because it is straightforward. I find that I eat a lot less. I'm learning to face my emotions instead of pushing them away and numbing myself with whatever I can stuff into my face. I like having this level of control over myself and trusting myself.

it's a really low blow call to vegetarianism.

it was okay till it started to plea towards vegetarianism. they need to be upfront about their hidden agenda... they are not so here ya go.

A Nice and Short Introduction

This short book taught me a major lesson: live in the moment. I'm learning how to eat intuitively and this book was a great intro. The simple act of taking time prior to, during, and after a meal to assess my feelings about the meal and my body's reaction, may be the key in helping me change my lifestyle.

A great overview to true balance

This is a calm, clear and non judge mental introduction to mindful eating. This is not an intense “do this now”. It has given me a lot to think about.
