Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Depression. Anxiety. Chronic pain. Phobias. Obsessive thoughts. The evidence is compelling: the root of these difficulties may reside in the traumas of our parents, grandparents and even great-grandparents. The latest research affirms that traumatic experience is passed on to future generations and that this emotional inheritance, hidden in everything from our gene expression to everyday language, plays a greater role in our health than ever previously understood.

Building on the work of leading experts in neuroscience and posttraumatic stress, Mark Wolynn has developed a pioneering approach to identifying and breaking these inherited family patterns. Having worked with individuals and groups on a therapeutic level for more than twenty years, It Didn't Start with You is his accessible, pragmatic and transformative guide to a method that has helped thousands of people reclaim their lives.

Best book for getting to know yourself and others

I got recommended this book by my friend. she knows that I'm always on the search to finding and getting to know myself as good as possible. If you're not ready to grow don't listen to this. this book is a great tool to discover more about yourself and your family. I unearthed issues in my own life from way back I wasn't even consciously aware off. This won't be the last time I've listened to this. it's a treasure.

Life changing and heart opening

I adore ancestral healing, and this book helps you work through understanding the link of how ancestral lives affect your own life and how to move through them so your life is not limited again

The book storyline is good but inapplicable in real life.

The concepts introduced in the book felt swayed to favor the authors family situation. The concepts introduced felt a bit more fictional than based on reality.

As a Polish national I could not focus on the book as soon as I understood you suggest..

..that the holocaust had place in Poland and done by Poles????. Simply as that?!
YOU DID NOT MENTION EVEN ONCE Nazi Germans invading independent Poland, who built the camps and then tried forcing random civilian Poles to help in Nazi hideous project under the threat of death to entire family if no complying!!! Sooo many did not comply! Huge number of Polish people lost their lives during this invasion during WWII.
Either your understanding is so wrong, or the history in the USA has been remade to white up the Germans whose sole idea was to take millions of innocent lives in the name of superior white blue eyed Arian race!
That is insane to blame invaded by Germany Poland in a way you suggested in this book. When you mention Germans they are great psychologist, scientist or prof Deutsch - you are clearly inspired by. So many of your patients were victims of Nazi Germans but you describe them only as victims in concentration camp in Poland. Never used a term: killed / murdered by Nazi Germans.
This is so wrong and insulating to Polish Nationals as myself.
