About this listen

Irreversible Damage is an exploration of a mystery: Why, in the last decade, has the diagnosis "gender dysphoria", transformed from a vanishingly rare affliction, applying almost exclusively to boys and men, to an epidemic among teenage girls?

Author Abigail Shrier presents shocking statistics and stories from real families to show that America and the West have become fertile ground for a "transgender craze" that has nothing to do with real gender dysphoria and everything to do with our cultural frailty. Teenage girls are taking courses of testosterone and disfiguring their bodies. Parents are undermined; experts are over-relied upon; dissenters in science and medicine are intimidated; free speech truckles under renewed attack; socialized medicine bears hidden consequences; and an intersectional era has arisen in which the desire to escape a dominant identity encourages individuals to take cover in victim groups.

Every person who has ever had a skeptical thought about the sudden rush toward a non-binary future but been afraid to express it - this book is for you.

This is a great book and a story that needs to be told. The one star reviews accuse this book of being unscientific and anti-Trans. This is a totally false assertion and misses the point completely. Listen and read widely around this subject and the real issues will become self evident.

Excellent and essential listening

This book was clearly narrated at a pace that was easy to follow and was very engaging.

Re the subject matter: if you spend any time immersed in this issue, you'll realise how worrying this trend in young girls is. The world will look back on this era where we allowed young people to effectively sterilise themselves before they properly understand what intimate relationships are, as being one we should be profoundly ashamed of. The legal cases are coming, we've seen it start. What has been going on is a scandal. People are waking up.

I'm so glad that Abigail Shrier has been able to write this book, that it has found a publisher and that so many have read and / or listened to it.

If I had read this book 5 years ago at 17 it would have saved me an awful lot of torment. That said, I cannot recommend this book enough. If you are the age I am then you will know at least one person who would benefit from reading this incredibly necessary book.

A must read

A thorough and well researched book. Examining the current rise of teen girls assuming a transgender identity. How transgender used to be treated and how it is treated now, what are the laws and rules and what is taught in schools in America. Obviously it's a complex issue and Abigails research looks at answering the difficult questions. To me it's written as a concerned parent and focuses on the balance between protecting and supporting our children. The emphasis is to not rush into anything irreversible.

Very relevant book of the current times
