Summary

International sex researcher, neuroscientist, and columnist Debra Soh debunks popular gender myths in this scientific examination of the many facets of gender identity that “is not only eminently reasonable and beautifully-written, it is brave and vital” (Ben Shapiro, number-one New York Times best-selling author).

Is our gender something we’re born with, or are we conditioned by society? In The End of Gender, neuroscientist and sexologist Dr. Debra Soh uses a research-based approach to address this hot-button topic, unmasking popular misconceptions about the nature vs. nurture debate and exploring what it means to be a woman or a man in today’s society.

Both scientific and objective, and drawing on original research and carefully conducted interviews, Soh tackles a wide range of issues, such as gender-neutral parenting, gender dysphoric children, and the neuroscience of being transgender. She debates today’s accepted notion that gender is a social construct and a spectrum, and challenges the idea that there is no difference between how male and female brains operate.

The End of Gender is conversation-starting “required reading” (Eric R. Weinstein, PhD, host of The Portal) that will arm you with the facts you need to come to your own conclusions about gender identity and its place in the world today.

Finally!

I was beginning to think I was losing my mind these days. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The author also gives measured responses and reiterates that this information is not for dismissing the transgender community. So anyone saying that this is just a baseless attack on transgender people, clearly hasn't read the book.

A definite eye opener on what we allow to happen in society if we continue to not voice Opposing opinions.

This is a hateful book masking itself as educational

Despite Debra stating that this was a scientific approach to gender I found this book extremely biased an non scientific. Many times she states that there isn’t evidence against her claims when that simply isn’t the case. I have come across such a vast amount of evidence specifically countering her points throughout my time in academia. She tactfully presents the information in a way that supports her prejudice and I honestly found this book deeply disturbing and upsetting. The fact that she states that she respects trans and non-binary folks yet spends an entire book essentially invalidating their existence is heartbreaking. Could not recommend less. There are so many better resources for people to learn about gender. Please do not read this book ESPECIALLY if your a parent with a child questioning their gender identity.

Balanced and Compassionate But Also Science Led

This is a brilliant book, read by the author which I always think is best for non-fiction. This book gives an overview of the ideological capture of the sciences and scientists researching sex, sexuality and gender and the effect of trans ideology on the discussion around rights and treatment. Soh is always compassionate and considerate towards trans people during these discussions and never suggests that Trans people don't exist or that they should be able to transition or that they should not have all the rights everyone else has. She brings her background in Sexology to bear on the controversial subject of Trans and TERFs and clearly outlines the myths on both sides of the debate along with an overview of the scientific evidence.
This is an important book to add to the debate and it is a shame that the Trans lobby have been attempting to discredit the author since she first started writing about these issues.

An okay book.

Honestly, didn't love it. There was quite a bit of bias in this book which made me question whether the author was cherry-picking studies. However, if your new to learning about gender, transgenderism and the differences of sexes, then I do suggest this book as long as you go in with a critical mind. I was hoping for a more in-depth conversation discussing why more people are choosing to define themselves as gender non-conforming and the increase in transgender people. There was some discussion, but I guess I had really hoped for more so I felt like I had wasted my money a little as a lot of this, I already knew as it's been discussed so much. Also personal note to the author: please stop playing the victim. We get it, you're risking your life to publish your studies...or something. If it pains you so much, do something else.
Also never acknowledge Ben Shapiro - that's quite literally stabbing yourself in the foot.

A MUST read, especially for parents!

this is not a political book, it simply states Scientific FACT which in the current climate of "wokeness" is a rarity! I commend the author for her bravery. This is a refreshing read as it is written by a Sexoligist (who has now moved out of the field feeling she can not tell lies in aid of political correctness) who is, for the most part a left leaning Liberal. this book does not have a political agenda. if there is an agenda at all it is that we must tread carefully when making life changung decisions for our children. apart from discussing the Trans/non binary movements it addresses relationships between heterosexual men and women and just how wrong we are getting it by denying sex differences! This book was informative, wonderfully written and very engaging. I sincerely hope the author continues to enlighten us with more!

Separates Facts and Emotion

Debra Soh's quiet approach explains and clarifies the emotionally charged theme of gender vs biological sex.
This book should be compulsory reading on all campuses.

Brilliant dissemination of the false logic of woke

Debra Dog does an excellent job of stating the scientific foundations of sex and gender, as well as the current research. She articulates thoroughly what you already feel is the case, and exposes the failures within academia and the moaist like behaviour of "keep your head down, in order to keep it" from the scientist who disagree that gender is binary.

Great for both layman and people with prior knowledge of the topic.

A great start in this debate

This was an excellent introduction to the debate. More reading is essential, but this book gives you the rudiments from the scientific point of view, not the nonesense the media feeds us
