About this listen

On the face of it, women's sport is on the rise, garnering more attention and grassroots involvement than ever before. However, the truth is that in many respects progress is stalling, or even falling back.

Sharron Davies is no stranger to battling the routine sexism the sporting world. She missed out on Olympic Gold because of blatant doping among East German athletes in the 1980s, and has never received justice. Now, biological males are being allowed to compete directly against women under the guise of trans 'self-ID', a development that could destroy the integrity of female sport. This callous indifference towards women in sport, argue Sharron and journalist Craig Lord, is merely the latest stage in a decades-long history of sexism on the part of sport's higher-ups.

A strong fightback is required to root out the lingering misogyny that plagues sporting governance, media coverage and popular perceptions. This book provides the facts, science and arguments that will help women in sport get the justice they deserve.

I was aware of the GDR women's swimming doping scandal in the 1980s, but I had no idea how deep the corruption was throughout the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the swimming organisations. It's unbelievable that they have acknowledged the crimes but done nothing to put things right.

The corruption and misogyny of the IOC, and how it manifests today is a revelation. I thought that the IOC's current approach to protecting women and girls' sports was just avoidant and passing the buck. This book shows that it's far more systematic and corrupt. This has changed my understanding of the IOC, and other national and international sporting bodies forever. Unfair play indeed, it's just not sporting.

Shocking, Even if You Think You Know Already.

Very good detail on the science. A touch too many personal anecdotes and too long on Russian steroid athletes.

Nothing to dislike apart from learning how appallingly women are treated in sports. Compelling book based on scientific truths and personal experiences.

Every body should read this book!

This book is a great listen, well read and more importantly full of facts that everyone needs to know!
The audible version is a great way to digest the information but I’d recommend a notebook and pen or buying the physical book too because you’re going to want to talk to everyone about what you’ve learned!
Sharron has produced a well researched and accurate book that every parent, grandparent, sports person, woman, girl, coach, well everyone really should know!

Highly recommend! Great listen, essential info’!!
